We stayed a for a couple of nights in June. Although were very clear we had two children in tow our room was very small. Getting to the room was a chore, requiring the maneuvering through many doors and small hallways. The room ammenities were a little dated but servicable.
It was close to Te Papa and other downtown interests. The breakfast was very good. Service was good, right down to the quick taxi they found to get us to the airport. We would recommend again but there is probably something better in neighborhood.

I've stayed at the West Plaza twice. The first time, about 3 months ago, it was pretty good. A very cheap hotel in New Zealand's capital, right in the middle of town. A bit noisy but nothing unbearable, and for the price I thought the room was big, clean, and comfortable, with a nice view out the back.

This visit was different. The room was $20 dearer, but because I didn't specifically tell them I as travelling in a couple, they for some reason assumed I was a woman travelling alone. Because of that, they gave me a horrible, tiny twin-bed room, not big enough for any self-respecting hotel to charge for. The room was clearly the 'children's room' half of a two-room suite - but it was more expensive than my last room. And then they flatly declined to move us, saying we should've told them when we checked in that there would be two of us!
So, if you're going to stay, request at least a double bed and a room that is adult-size, for your money.

Very handy and located near the waterfront.
Has a conference room (however you can smell cigarette smoke emitting from the air conditioning machine) and own restaurant
Reception is open to accomodate late arrivals
Lift available and parking at rear
Reasonable sized room, however the single bed was a bit small
No air conditioning, so only air flow is from front windows, in which you have to contend with the traffic noise below, so unfortunatley if you are hot and need fresh air in the middle of the hight, you have to put up with the traffice noise, and in some cases, rubbish truck and road sweeper at the early hours of the morning. Oh and it is also located next to the Fire Station. So it is preferable to request a back room.
COmfortable beds with suitable bathroom facilities for an overnight stay
Suitable for those who need a place to put your head, rather than spending more than sleeping time in this room is a stretch.
Room included beds, tv, mirror, tbale and chair, with a wardrobe.
Restaurant food was suitable and tasty, and portions were more than reasonable.
Restaurant is in the process of rennovations.
Suit: Short term stay

Booked a special weekend Breakaway package at this hotel and found it very good.

Our flight from Auckland down to Wellington was delayed by two hours and the hotel rang to check up when I did not arrive at the hotel on time. I arrived after midnight and still received good check-in service. The room was a decent size, bathroom was newish, decor was pretty new, the bed was a little soft for my liking otherwise the room was good.

The special package included full cooked breakfast which had the usual bacon and eggs etc and service at breakfast was very good. The big plus for this hotel was the location. Right over the road from the town hall and information centre. Short walk in one direction to Lambton Quay and main shops. Short walk in other direction to Courtney Place bars and restaurants. I would recommend this hotel to others and stay there again.

Booked via Go Kiwi Gold package but this was by far the worst hotel I stayed in over 3 weeks.

Difficult to find as on a one way system. The car parking was in a public car park with no security and the location was right on the line with middle of the night rubbish collections.

By far the worst hotel we had on our trip.

The hotel, in my opinion , is for business people only.

Behind the impressive reception area is just drab accomodation

The room was clean, but that's about the only good thing that I can say about it. It was an odd shape and it appeared to be a spare space that they converted into a room. The bed was uncomfortable and small (even by UK standards). With three pieces of luggage we had to move them about to get from one side of the room to the bathroom.

There was a tour bus staying at the hotel on the same night and talking to some of these people they seemed to give the same impression about the hotel.

This was booked as a " gold pass" hotel so what a disappointment it turned out to be ! The hotel is drab and poorly furnished. We had a stuffy smelly room with hyper compact bathroom ( shower not separate from toilet) with DIY style furniture.Luckily it was clean, the only positive tick I can give!
Outside, their ad reads :" location, comfort, style" !! Comfort? nope. Style?? This must be a joke!. Definitely overpriced and deceitful. Not good.
