I think that we have been spoiled by staying at fantastic hotels and when we came here it was just average at best. Internet is not free and the room is cramped. Hardly any outlets and no hot tub or pool. No hand towel is provided. Restaurant is overpriced. When we checked in we asked for a wake up call and he said to call him so when we called reception they didn't answer. We went down and hoped they really set it up. It really didn't meet our expectations.

Stayed here for one night only, convenient location, affordable, main attractions are within walking distance. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Try the pub Featherstone Bar and Grill Restaurant on the corner of the street, delicious and afforable. Enjoyed the short stay and would come back.

I give this four stars because of its convenient location, otherwise it would be a three and a half star hotel (no free wi-fi, no fitness centre). I stayed two nights here as it seemed the most convenient hotel for attending the opening night and awards night for World of Wearable Art at Queens Wharf. The wharf is a block away. The room was fine, basic but quiet and comfortable. The location couldn't have been better, not only because it was so close to Queens Wharf but also because it was less than a block to the stop for the airport bus. Lots of shops and restaurants in this part of the CBD, including a restaurant right in the lobby. The Cable Car is also nearby. The room was no bargain--$187 a night--I think the prices were elevated because of WOW. Still it was cheaper than the Intercontinental, where I have stayed on previous visits to Wellington (the Intercontinental is across the way from the Ibis, but a nicer hotel and also convenient for attending WOW). Would I stay here if I were not attending WOW? Probably not. If not attending WOW, I'd probably choose to be closer to Te Papa and Courtney Place.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yes, the room rates paid during the WOW period do reflect the very high demand for rooms during this important event period. Our room rates vary daily. I hope you enjoyed your 'WOW' experience. What a fantastic event for our city.

Standard and functional...but this institution, colossal and experienced in its craft as it is, should know better than to charge for in-room wifi. The hotel's location is second to none, deep in the heart of the CBD, service is good and the rooms are neat clean and tidy, as one would expect from the Mercure chain. However, in this day and age, charged wifi is a pure anachronism and the sooner they realise this and modify their policy, the sooner their customers will be properly satisfied.

Stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't have asked for a more strategic location at the heart of Wellington. Only a 10 minutes' walk to the Cable Car Station and a mere 5 minutes' walk to the pier. Also within walking distance is the railway station and shops, shops, shops galore. Had wanted to stay in one of the hotels at Cuba Street but I am glad I did not as this hotel is way more central.

Room is spacious and the twin sharing one came with 2 near queen sized beds; a warm welcome from the single sized beds which we had been sleeping on over the past few days.

There is no free wi-fi in the room but you can use the free wi-fi at the lounge. Each session is about 30 minutes and multiple sessions are allowed.

Very helpful and friendly staff but there wasn't any bell boy or concierge who helped us with our heavy luggage even though we were struggling with it.

Would have preferred if access to the rooms are restricted to only card holders for safety reasons. That said, Wellington is an extremely safe city so it wasn't a problem at all.

Parking is NZD25 per night at the basement of the hotel and reservation is required. Got the rooms for only NZD131 per night at one of the hotel reservation websites. A real bargain indeed.

Thank you very much for your comments and the 5 out of 5 rating you gave following your stay with us at ibis Wellington. We are appreciated your detailed feedback. I trust your comment regarding 'access to the rooms' refers to the access to each accommodation floor as we most definitely limit access to each individual room to the guests who stay in that room. Thank you again for your thoughts.
