This is now my usual hotel in Wellington. The rooms are probably a star above the Ibis normal and the location is outstanding. Wellington CBD is mostly on reclaimed harbourfront, after which the city inclines precipitously - and most hotels are on the upper level: the Ibis is near the arts/restaurant area of the harbour.

Dear Accorhotels Traveller,

Thank you for your outstanding recommendation of the hotel! Ibis Wellington is indeed lucky of its location in Wellington and close proximity to the harbour as you have pointed out. We are so pleased that we are your “go to” hotel when staying in Wellington and we look forward to seeing you back in the hotel soon.

Arrived at the hotel at 1 PM and room was ready. Reception staff was fast, efficient and polite. We were given room 221 which was a corner room in a quiet alcove. Though it faced 2 busy streets, the room was well insulated and we did not hear any street noise. The room was well-appointed and clean. Internet was ridiculously expensive, though. It was 68 cents/minute or $10 for 2 consecutive hours. Once logged on, you had to stay on for 2 hours to get your $10 worth. There is a computer in the lobby, but it’s in a very noisy area right at the front door, and it’s only free for 15 minutes/day. And, you have to ask, as nowhere is it written and the front desk staff never offered it at check-in. A much cheaper and more scenic option is to take your laptop to anywhere along the waterfront where there’s free WIFI for 60 minutes/day. Wellington is definitely a walking city. Check out the wharf area and the cable car, which is touristy, but great views of city. For a quick, healthy sandwich, try the Pita Pit down the street from the hotel. Great choices and super friendly, smiley staff.

Dear Hawaii-Cowgirl,

Thank you for the constructive feedback regarding the internet pricing at the hotel. This internet is at broadband speed and I am sorry if it did not meet your expectations. We do provide 15 minutes worth of free wireless access per day in the lobby and bar also. Thank you for the comments regarding the efficiency of my Front Office team, I will personally pass on your comments to them.

Kind regards,

This hotel is in a great location for shops, museums and other city attractions. I found the room well set up with king bed, good TV, desk under the window. When I sat on the bed the mattress just gave way. It was difficult to get comfortable at night due to the lack of any support and the fact that the king bed was two single mattresses joined not very securely by the sheets. The sheets aren't quite big enough and hadn't been tucked in. Why don't hotels get staff to tuck the bottom sheet in securely? The bathroom was ok and the room in general was quite clean. I would not stay here again just because the mattress seemed really old and poor quality. Otherwise I would have rated this hotel quite highly especially as it seemed quite quiet at night.

Dear AucklandGopo,

Thank you for the feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Ibis Wellington. I am disappointed to read that there was an issue with the mattress in your room, all mattresses in the hotel were replaced in September 2009 during our refurbishment of the property. I do apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope that this issue does not detriment further visits to the property.

My husband & I stayed here for 1 night in April 2011. The hotel was clean & centrally located. Despite being on the 2nd floor, we had a very quiet sleep. Great value for our money.

This hotel was such good value for money!! Although the rooms were quite small with no view they used the space well with a sunken flat screen TV in front of the bed etc and there was enough space and they are so clean and comfy - very nicely decorated too. We didn't mind spending spare time there in between sightseeing. The hotel is so central that you feel part of the waterfront and can walk to and from the hotel easily to all the sites. The staff were super friendly and the breakfasts were GREAT! Even had a drink at the lounge downstairs which felt nice and welcoming - lots of guests seemed to enjoy meeting in the lounge and dining area for drinks and snacks which was nice. The staff were also helpful in advising us how to get around and what to see and do.

Room Tip: We like rooms high up

We have never been asked to sign a credt for a substantial amount before we even stepped into the room. We understand the necessity to have a credit card swiped but to have an amount attached is quite unnecessary.

Dear Accorhotels Traveller,

Thank you for your comments regarding the credit policy at the hotel. It is the policy of the hotel that we do take an authorisation to cover room charges for the duration of your stay and I am sorry if this inconvenienced you in any way.

This is a good and well run Ibis with friendly and helpful staff. We were allowed an early check in and changed our room speedily to one further away from the lifts. The rooms are not large but standard Ibis size and ok for a couple of nights. We have an Accor card and were left chocolates on our pillow the first night. This is in a great location for the city and very close to the Bluebridge ferry terminal for ships to Picton on the South Island. 15 mins free WiFi is available each day in the lobby and then you have to pay. It is also available free on the quay and in Esquire cafes if you buy a drink. Good food is available in the Featherstone bar just north of the hotel and the train station which is just a bit further north has a good supermarket. Would definitely use again.
