“Lovely to go for a wander.”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

When the weather is nice, this place is even more beautiful. Mostly sheltered from the wind anyway but sunshine brings all the flowers out. Be sure to check out the rose gardens up the top.

“Would have loved to see them in Summer”
Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

We spent a couple of hours wandering through the gardens on a beautiful winter afternoon. Unfortunately due to the season the gardens were not as stunning as they would be in the summer months, but despite this they are learnt well kept. The childrens play park was well equipped for children of all ages. Would highly recommend!

“Relaxing stroll through well tended gardens”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

First of all, kudos to the Wellington transit service; after arriving by cable car, we were uncertain which way to enter the garden, but a helpful bus driver gave us directions and a description of the best route to take. This took us through the trees to the hydrangea garden, the succulents, fernery to the Tree-house, with its art work. Here you can take an hydraulic lift down to the fragrant garden and from there past the main gate up the hill to the herb garden and down steps among tree sculptures to the Lady Norwood Rose Garden. The rose garden is very impressive and when we were there they were all at the peak of their flowering. We stopped for lunch at the Picnic café, then walked up the hill past the founder cottage looking over the rose garden and nursery, to the met centre, the observatory and the wonderful views from this spot and back to the cable car station. Hints - check out the cable car museum; on weekend they have a craft fair here, and there is a perfumery in the main building; also there is a shuttle bus to Zealandia.
