“It's a YHA”

You get what you expect. All good, clean rooms and bathrooms. Stayed at a twin with my sister, enough room for our luggage. Good facilities, extra points for the recycling. Staff was so-so, some very friendly and helpful, others a bit less easy-going. Location is OK.

we tried 2 other hostels in Welly before the YHA and the YHA was certainly the best choice. Despite its size (massive) it's immaculately clean, comfy, the staff are helpful, the two kitchen are very well equipped and have plenty of space to accommodate people, even when very busy.

We stayed here the night before crossing over to the south island. The hotel is luxurious for a backpacker accomodation with spacious rooms, large kitchen and various rooms for entertainment.
The people at the reception, however, offer little added value. We wanted to visit Te Puia in the morning, but they when they provided us with the opening hours of the museum, it turned out, the information we got was wrong. Also parking is a problem, but I guess that's what you get when staying in a hotel in the city center.

i loved this place; the location is perfect, at the top of Courtenay Place, very helpful staff, safe storage, safe sleeping quarters, PCs available with headsets for calling home, quiet during sleepy time, big airy public area, fantastic system when it comes to people's food in the kitchen, and the biggest food store in the city centre is just across the road. Just a great place with great atmosphere were (if you want) you can get to know lots of fun people, get tips for free stuff to do in wellington and lots more.
Absolutely recommend it!

The Wellington YHA is a decent place to stay if you are backpacking. I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, quite a small room, but with a private bathroom. The good thing about this hostel is that the staff is very friendly and helpful in assisting you with information, planning your trip or any other issues you might have. The kitchen seems very well equipped, clean and spacious. There is a New World supermarket right across the street in case you need to stock up. Lastly, a general advice: if you are backpacking in New Zealand, stay as little as possible in cities, but rather enjoy the countryside.

This place is pretty good. We had a private room which was very small but very clean and comfortable. The shared bathrooms facilities were very clean and well organised. The kitchen facilities were the best I've seen in a hostel. Good mix of people and age ranges. Would go back.

this place was great, very hotel-like for a YHA and had brilliant meal offers (2 of us paid very little money for a very large pizza that was ordered for us by the YHA) great little T.V room and the best selection of DVD's we'd seen out there. There are 2 large kitchens and it is well positioned for the city. The rooms were warm and clean, en suite shower room was great. Would definately recommend this place.
