My wife and I (ages 61 and 59) stayed two nights at the YHA in an en suite room with a double bed and found it entirely comfortable and a good value, especially given the downtown location in a national capital. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and quiet if small and spare, and it was easy to walk to restaurants, the museum and other attractions. They even have a breakfast bar.
My wife wasn't up for hanging out in the TV room with all the 20-something backpackers but we could have done. And when it was time to get a taxi, one appeared instantly when the person at the desk picked up the phone.
One thought: I had no idea Wellington would be so dead on Easter weekend. It was tough to find an open restaurant on Sunday night.
