We have stayed at the Amora several times over the last decade, and love the proximity to the water, shops, cafes, Te Papa Museum, City Art Gallery and Oriental Bay. Our room on the 8th floor was spacious and comfortably furnished with a king bed, writing desk overlooking the harbour, and lounge chair with footstool, also beside the window. The bathroom was a good size, with a bath as well as a separate shower. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board are supplied. The fridge contained a selection of wines, beers and non-alcoholic drinks, all reasonably priced. Tea and coffee making facilities were also in the room. We found the staff friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the restaurant's Maitre d'. We ate only breakfasts in the restaurant, where there was a wide selection of continental or cooked foods. The house keeping service was very good, but there is no turn-down service in the evenings, which doesn't worry us. Our bags were quickly stored when we arrived before the check-in time, and when we checked out. Taxis were always standing in the hotel driveway, and the airport is an easy 20 minutes away along the waterfront. We will stay here again, especially because we love watching the ships berthing, the dragon boats and rowing skiffs practising, and yachts and launches coming and going from the nearby marina.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors would have the best harbour views.

Stayed at the Amora for a few nights and it was a very good hotel, but the room I had was a little dated, but is a reasonable hotel. The Internet prices are very high, but there is free wi-fi in many areas of Wellington, as I learned from a previous review. It is close to the centre of Wellington and many cafes and restaurants. The staff are not overly friendly, but aren't overly helpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a waterfront view

My wife & I stayed in the Amora for 3 nights (March 7-10) & once again enjoyed the hotel and all it`s facilities.Staff extremely helpful, 24hour menu good selection, Freyburg swimming pool close by. A minute or so from the waterfront and maybe along the front 10 mins to cbd. The museum very close as is the shopping area in Courtney/Cuba Streets, theatre, cinemas,Michael Fowler centre.
Views of the city & harbour uninterrupted. We have actually been taking our grandchildren and now great grandchildren to this hotel for over 25years from memory! usually on a `special`when available

Room Tip: We have no complaints as we usually have a room on a higher floor.

This is lovely classic hotel so great central place to stay. However, don't buy the wireless Internet access as its expensive and very slow - you can also get access to Wellington's free public wifi in many places throughout the city

We stayed for 4 days at the Amora in March 2013. The room was large, very clean and the king bed was very comfy. Decor was new and fresh. Views of harbour were lovely. Location was great, near the wharf area, museum, galleries and cafes. Close access to Cuba St as well. When we arrived we saw a large pod of dolphins in the bay

We took an hour guided tour of the museum, hired a bike and rode to Oriental beach and had a swim, hired a car and went to Greytown, vineyards and saw Rivendell where they filmed the Hobbit.

Service at the hotel was excellent Many lifts ensured quick trip to and from room. I would really recommend this hotel. Great to be close to the waterfront. Only down side was cost of Internet $26 per day or $10 an hour.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better view of harbour

Dear Rozzz,
It sounds like you had a fantastic time in Wellington; great that you saw dolphins in the harbour, we had Orca whales in there last week which was quite a thrill. Lovely to see that your time at the Amora was a pleasant one and that you enjoyed in particular our fantastic location and the cleanliness of the hotel. I do hope that you can make a return visit in the future.

We spent four nights here in Feb to celebrate our anniversary. Hotel did not acknowledge or anniversary.

Nearly opposite to Te Papa and views of the harbour. We had a lovely large room (319) with beautiful views. Massive bed (although one of us thought it was uncomfortable). Very very noisy air conditioning!!!! Bathroom a little tired. Breakfast was fairly average, nothing special, you can get something much nicer and better value at Dixon Street Deli or Plum Cafe. No swimming pool! The best thing about this hotel is the location not the price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the harbour!

Dear funfoodies 1,
I appreciate your feedback and have taken on board your comments. I was surprised to read that your anniversary was not acknowledged as there is a procedure in place to ensure that these are not missed. I will address this issue with my team, however please accept my apologies for this oversight. I do hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back to the Amora Hotel.

I travel to Wellington at least a couple of times per year and in the last few years have avoided staying at this hotel, which has had a change of name in recent times. I was booked in by my company's travel agent, so didn't have a choice and was not looking forward to it, based on previous stays. However, not only has there been a name change, but overall it is so much better - from the service received at the front desk, to the waiting staff in the restaurant, to the rooms - 100 per cent improvement. It is in a great location and within walking distance to most attractions in Wellington. I had dinner in the restaurant and would recommend it. I would definitely stay here again.
