Stayed for one night, as was catching the Bluebridge Ferry across to Picton the next morning. Its directly across the road from the terminal, so couldnt be easier.

Stayed in single room ( shared bathroom ) , all clean and tidy, basics there for a night, bathroom Ok, a little bit tired, and the bath seemed really slippery and narrow. A non slip mat would come in handy.

Hotel has some nice Art Deco features from the original, had a quick basic ( booked and paid the night before ) breakfast for $5 before heading out. Would recommend for a short stay , budget price. Location is just terrific for inner city, waterfront, ferry terminal, bus and rail station.

I stayed at Downtown Backpackers for two nights in February with my brother. Chose the backpackers because of its rate and location opposite Wellington bus and railway station, since we need to catch a bus out of Wellington early in the morning. We stayed on the second floor, in a bunk style basic twin room, and it was better than I expected. We shared the bathroom with the room next to us, but it was empty the first day, so it's like having the whole bathroom to ourselves. The sheets and mattress were clean, and the towels provided were also clean and fluffy. The bathroom was clean as well and the room was serviced and cleaned daily. They also changed your towels daily, so it was really an unexpected pleasure. The staffs at the front desk were really nice and friendly as well, so we felt very welcomed after an 11 hour bus ride from Auckland. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend others to stay here, especially if you're on a tight budget and value cleanliness. Its a backpackers, but with service the quality of a hotel.

We stayed in a "superior twins" room. One single, one double bed. It was ensuit with nice white towels and wash cloths. The room was serviced daily. Also a large flat screen tv with most sports and some news channels. There are nice sized lockers in the lobby, for 2 dollars you can store your luggage before or after you check out. Bar, cafe for all 3 meals and Wi Fi/internet. The train station is literally right across the street. Also many buses stop there and a bus straight to the airport (you can't miss the orange buses) and ferry building shuttle. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even printing out a google map for us. I will be going back there when I am next in Wellington.

Room Tip: The rooms start wth the rooms with bunk beds and up. People of all ages were staying there. The widows open at the top and it can be a bit noise. But then you are in the middle of town.

This hostel was chosen for it's location close to rail station and easy ferry access. Very convenient and easy to find. The onsite cafe had tasty meals and suited us as we didn't need to shop in the short time we had there. Good value for money

Room Tip: We had a corner double room with en suite which was convenient, and although close to the road was not too noisy.

Located right at the bus stop as well as opposite the train and ferry terminal.
Large grocery store in the train station, which was awesome considering we had a huge kitchen to work out of in the backpackers.
The front staff were excellent, helpful especially in getting bookings done for other locations.
For the money it was good, also very clean...surprised to have cleaning staff freshen your room everyday!
A bit of a hike to the core of downtown, but then the hike along the waterfront is worth it. Close to the hike up thru the botanical gardens as well.
For a single traveler...perfect, easy to meet others in the lounge and bar.

Room Tip: Mid level was good....quiet and a view!
