We aren't really into museums but decided to go here as the weather was bad. One of the best museums I have been to, loads to see and lots of interactive exhibits. Children would love it!

“A New Zealand "Must See"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Beautifully set out Museum. Lots of "hands on" stuff. Don't miss it. There are two shops, one aimed at children and the other one is a great place to buy good quality NZ souvenirs.

“Awesome Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Te Papa is the most amazing museum I've ever been to. They exhibitions are often interactive. I learned a lot about Maori culture and New Zealand's native plants and animals. Especially the section Awesome Forces with the Earthquake House is really interesting, especially if you're from a places where volcanos and earthquakes barely exist. The Marae on the 4th floor is beautiful!

“Impressive place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We visited as a family just after Christmas, was wet outside, the place was packed, this made getting around harder, their was alot of noise. Three hours was still not enough time to see everything. its very well done and a must see for any visitors to New Zealand.

Great use of multimedia in the displays, had a nice lunch at the cafe, again it was packed out.

“Above average for a National Museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

Your standard national museum, New Zealand's Te Papa is slightly more interactive and interesting than most. It houses some hidden gems like Phar Lap's hide and a beautiful Maori marae, as well as interesting unexpected exhibits like the one on NZ's very own Miss Universe or the giant squid. Great for a dose of history and natural history, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained for at least a couple of hours.
Don't miss the view of the "black hole" from the galleries above. Quite beguiling.
