“Not for me”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

I have visited this museum more than once and as I recall it was subtitled "our place" Well as a European New Zealander it isn't "my place" as I see little of my culture reflected there.

Gift shop also overpriced and cafe served food of indifferent quality.

“Don't miss Te Papa Tongawera!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

We found the half-day visit to Te Papa a great way to appreciate better the geological, natural and cultural histories of New Zealand. It helped us appreciate the friendly people, the amazing landscape, the flora and even the million sheep we encountered driving from Auckland to Queenstown. The museum's organization, captions and displays are well done. Just take breaks to avoid being overloaded. Being on the waterfront, it's rejuvenating to step out a bit for the sea air and a small picnic. Also take time to read everything about the incredible giant squid and its pivoting claws!

The Giant Squid is freaken amazing. It looks like an Alien... was worth walking in there just for that. Also the Maori cultural display is very very good!

It is somewhere for all ages to enjoy and beautifully set up, with the interactive exhibits fun...especially the mock up earthquake...glad it was not for real.
