Owner description: Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

We hadn't read anything about this one and happened to wander in. It is fantastic! We both thought it was better organized than the nearby and better-publicized TePapa. It's a nice history museum that focuses on the Wellington area and culture.

I enjoyed this museum and found the displays quite interesting and informative. The museum is well set out across several floors and there was no crowding so it was easy to see everything. Staff were friendly and helpful and didn't try to sell me anything.

This quant and delightful museum is an absolute must see while in Wellington. Located right on the waterfront and free admission. Tells the history of Wellington including Wellington's waterfront history and the Wahine boat disaster in Wellington Harbour back in 1968. Look out for the statue of 'Paddy the Wanderer' an airdale terrier dog who roamed around the wharves during the 1930's keeping the workers company. He got to ride in an aeroplane and after he passed away, he was given a funeral parade through Wellington. This museum is better than Te Papa in many ways. Would highly recommend this amazing and informative and exciting museum which has been nominated as one of the top 50 museums in the world!
