Owner description: Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

This museum had a good mix of interactive and static displays. The insights into maritime history, the port and early settler life in Wellington are well presented and engaging.

The Cafe was a bit disappointing, we were expecting to get some lunch but there was hardly any food on offer, just coffee and juices.

The displays and exhibits depiciting Wellington through the decades were extremely thought out and well done. We loved the holographic projects and the animated displays -- the one with the rats in the wharf storage area exhibit was brilliant. (Te Papa could take a lesson from this museum -- this museum really comes alive -- Te Papa is the same old, same old museum set up)

We were here for an hour and half and that was not enough time to really see everything. The staff was very apologetic when they told us it was time to close the museum. Since we had not had time to look at the museum shop, they kindly stayed an additional 15 minutes for us. The shop has unique items at very good prices. One could easily spend three hours here, Entrance to the museum is free. Add this museum to your list.

This is a very cool museum and is very different to Te papa, there are very different things to see than Te papa, but I personally prefer Te papa

This museum features displays, exhibits, maritime relics and artifacts relating to the history and settlement of Wellington. Very interesting short film about Maori folklore.
