Owner description: Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

Again, a very lovely surprise. It is like walking into a movie set or a time machine. Awesome displays and going back into memory lane. Even recalling objects you saw in your early youth... This is far from a boring stuffy museum. This is fun and so well done.

This museum is easily overlooked by those heading straight for Te Papa though it's only a few minutes stroll away from it. The museum tells good stories about Wellington and the region, including a dramatic ferry disaster (thankfully) some longer while ago. It also hosts changing exhibitions on topics of every life. Like most museums it's for free and just for that would already deserve your visit.

A lovely museum, manageable size, with informative displays - particularly those on Maori legends on the third floor and the Wahine disaster on the second floor. Definitely worth a look...and it's free!

Take some time with this and start on the top floor and work down. Well laid out and nicley presented exhibits.

This may the best museum in Wellington. Located in the old Harbour Board building it is not only asthethically more pleasing than the other museum but far more interesting in terms of the exhibits and because most people seem to go to the larger museum it is quieter so it is easier to enjoy the exhibits. I really felt I had learned alot about the history of Wellington from the museum. Highly recommended.
