Owner description: ZEALANDIA is a heaven of tropical bliss right on the doorstep of Wellington City. Affectionately referred to as a hidden gem ZEALANDIA received international acclaim for the groundbreaking predator free 8.6km fence. Since the completion of the fence in 1999 ZEALANDIA has brought a number of native birds, reptiles and wildlife back from the brink of extinction where they now roam freely through the 225 hectare valley. A visit to ZEALANDIA is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and a must for anyone visiting Wellington. There are a number treks to saunter, suitable for any fitness level. Alternatively step back in time with our interactive exhibition center or take a load off at the atmospheric Rata Café.

“mind blowing!”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

honestly one of the best attractions I've seen in New Zealand. being up close and personal with endangered birds and ancient tutatara was mind blowing. being in a beautiful nature reserve so close and accessible to the city, walking distance to the cable car. a trip my children will never forget! it's an absolute must see when in Wellington!

“Fabulous experience”
Reviewed June 6, 2014 via mobile

We caught the free shuttle bus to Zealandia and arrived just in time to take a guided walk around the sanctuary. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgable and when the tour ended we spent a while longer walking around and enjoying the sights and sounds. After our walk we headed to the cafe for lunch and were blown away by the quality of the beef burger - it was delicious! I definitely recommend a visit.
