“A Bit of Fun.”

The Museum Art Hotel is different despite the bones being a bit old. The decor makes the difference from the boring chain hotels along with the odd good quirky thing. The room we had was far from big but with most of the walls being mirrors it was difficult to feel hemmed in - until you tried to walk the wrong way.

The bathrooms should be seen by other similarly priced hotels as the shelf space for putting stuff was great. And it is a very central location unless you are a politician.

We would go back.

A last minute requirement to stay a night in Wellington meant a quick booking as we came over on the ferry. The artworks are gorgeous and the location is great - east walk to great cafe's and restaurants. the room was clean and comfortable. The bar is full of beautiful vintage furniture and mirrors - the special offer of a couple of free cocktails there was utlitised promptly! As there was a storm in Wellington that night we really appreciated the call to suggest we move our motorbike as 2 bikes had already blown over in the covered parking by the front entrance! Overall it was a very pleasant stay in somewhere special before heading north.

Located opposite the iconic National Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa, The "art-hotel" Museum Hotel is definitely in the right place; the eclectic collection of artworks (and the owners fanciful collection of motorbikes) adorn the public areas, creating a superb ambiance. The rooms are only slightly short of 5 star, but can almost be forgiven by the lobby's extravagance!

Reading others reviews, there's clearly many differing room categories, because mine wasn't equipped as some others describe, so do your homework ...

This hotel is unique with its artwork around the hotel and on top of that its service is superb the restaurant first class and the rooms most comfortable and well presented. Were only in Wellington for one night but the location opposite the fabulous Te Papa museum is a bonus and your not far from many restaurants. Nothing was too much for the staff and the breakfast was the best we had a NZ hotel so far. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: A room looking over the harbour is worth it

The art in this hotel is fabulous and well worth a visit even if you don't stay here. The restaurant, Hippopotamus, is amazing. It was the best meal we had in New Zealand.
Our room was very spacious and clean, with great pillows. The hotel is in a great location with the Te Papa Museum across the street along with the harbour and the Dr. Seuss gallery next door.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We used a local car parking station and street parking for our stay which was cheaper than using the hotel car park. Only disappointment was wi-fi which had a charge for use in our room, we encountered this problem all over NZ.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view room. A higher floor will help with road noise.

Had 2 nights away with my partner in this fantastic hotel... The art work around the place is fantastic and you need to check out the public toilets downstairs!
-check in was a breeze
-room was huge with a massive balcony..bed was so comfy that our night out in the town was cut short as all we wanted to do was lie in the comfy bed watching TV and eating food :)
-room service breakfast in the morning , French toast and eggs Benedict YUMMMMM is and understatement.
-check out just as easy as check in.
All in all this place is fabulous I am planning on staying here again hopefully for my birthday and try the degustation at the restaurant.

P.s if you want to give me a free holiday for my birthday I'd love that :p
