“Can't beat the location”

Nice hotel with a lot of character. Art everywhere, directly across the street from the Te Papa Museum, the Farmers' Market, and the harbor. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant (book ahead). The internet was not as accessible as we could have wished--free in the lobby but not in the room. It struggled for speed and did not like my mac. The staff were helpful and friendly. We did not use the pool or fitness center, but could see people swimming laps in the long narrow pool. You couldn't ask for a more central location. Good value for luxury.

The foyer of this hotel is worth a visit even if you do not intend staying there with various works of art on display. Great location in the city centre. There is a charge for using the car park but this does mean that you have city centre car parking at a reasonable price. We stayed in a studio apartment which was very well equipped (including a washing machine/dryer). Room very comfortable and quiet despite the city centre location. Price very reasonable for the quality of the accommodation. Only negative point was that room internet access had to be paid for although it was free in the foyer.

I liked the art and the quirkiness of the hotel . I did not like having to purchase internet service for our room..I think that in 2014 - service should be provided free in the rooms.
Customer service was just mediocre. It appeared to be just a job for those who worked there. We stayed in 8 hotels while in New Zealand and I would rank their customer service at the bottom.

The rooms were nice and comfortable as well as the bathroom. The noise level was low and the hotel had a great location within walking distance to most activities.

The apartments are well appointed with lovely bathrooms. The Hippopotamus restaurant serves delicious food and the staff are very attentive. The hotel is a very short walk from the waterfront and a 5-10 minute walk from Lambton Quay - the main shopping area.

Room Tip: We had an apartment with a harbour view - definitely worth waking up to that each morning.

Hotel in a great location for central Wellington activity. Can walk to all things in the central city. Friendly staff at check in, with good advice about local activity on -liked the little information sheet each day with whats on and the weather. My only real criticism would be that it seems ridiculous that you have pay for in room wifi and that there is not a complimentary daily newspaper.
In the bathroom the shower head was rather an odd shape so that having a normal shower if you didn't wish to get your head wet was a little difficult ;this was just a minor issue as the room we had was really nice [in the apartment wing]. Concierge was helpful .We would go here again. Thank you .

We had booked a touring holiday by car and rail covering both islands, the booking had been made for many months so to our horror when we went to check in we was told they had our booking for September not March 2014. After a short wait we were shown to our room which definately wasnt what we wanted - it was a double roomed self catering appartment where the bedrooms were like shoeboxes. What was so disapponting was I had to raise the matter with the reception as I viewed the room not even equal to a Travelodge or Premier Inn in the UK. We were offered apologies and told the hotel was fully booked and that for out second night we would be moved to an upgraded room - shame this wasnt said when we first booked in. We was offered a bottle of bubbly as compensation but I suspect even this was screwed up as it hadnt been delivered to the room and we drank what was in the mini bar. This holiday was special to us as we are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this year.

The replacement room was excellent as was breakfast as part consulation, maybe we was just unlucky but the overbooking could have been handled much better than what happened.

The ammenities of this room were a real life saver, since our luggage didn't catch up with us for 36 hours. In room washer and dryer and spa robes allowed us to at least have clean clothes. Although there was not formal place to eat in the suite, the kitchen was the best equiped of any of the 8 properties in which we stayed in our 26 days in New Zealand. All the staff was very helpful and attuned to our distress. We loved the quirky art that decorated the hotel. The location was very convenient for walking around the city.
