“Great location”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

We stayed here due to the good location for Te Papa and the Te Aro side of Wellington. We stayed in an apartment room which was large and very well equipped, though no harbour view from our side of the building. The lobby areas and corridors to the rooms were decorated with art works which makes this quite unique when compared to chain hotels.

On the down side, service was average, didn't see a single staff member smile during the time we were there. Service also very slow at breakfast - waiting half an hour during an empty breakfast service was too long - need to put this on the menu that a la carte orders take a long time. The level of service means we probably won't stay here again when in Wellington.

We found this place by accident and were so happy we did. The room was great but the lobby area is what made it special. Art on all walls. Live music in the late afternoon which was enjoyed with a glass of wine.
The coffee machine in the room was not working and they made a coffee to go for me to take out in the morning. When back in Wellington this is where we will stay

Well located near Te Papa Museum, & walking distance to city centre and harbour front,
There is on site valet parking. The parking valets/porters were helpful friendly & excellent.
The hotel feels disappointingly much bigger than a boutique art hotel.
The room was good with fine facilities. The restaurant offered a welcome & a nice breakfast.
Not the cheapest, but very nice for a first time tourist couple.

This was everything we expected. Fantastic apartment with a well appointed kitchen and even a washing machine dryer. We loved the spa bath in our room. Do take time to look at all the art and have a cocktail upstairs at Hippopotamus. So close to everything, it makes the entire city accessible.

Room Tip: We stayed in an apartment had no view but we didn't spend time here during the day so it didn...

What a fabulous hotel - read on. It was spacious and comfortable and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to an appartment room. It had clearly just been refurbished and the room had everything you could ever need. The bar/restaurant of the top floor made wonderful cocktails. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the menu looked excellent. Having said all these good things, the best bit of the hotel is the art! It's amazing, eclectic, fascinating and everywhere! You could spend hours just looking at it all. We loved it.

Room Tip: Ask to be upgraded to an appartment room

We spent 2 nights at the Museum Hotel in Wellington. It's a fabulous location with well appointed rooms. Unfortunately, their onsite restaurant was closed due to the holidays but there are plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby within walking distance.

Thought our harbourfront room was very good value, super view and great location close to everything we wanted to do in Wellington. Fascinated by the fact that they moved this hotel in its entirety, on two sets of railway tracks, when the Te Papa Museum was being developed on its site- how crazy is that!

Yes, I organized the building move over 20 years ago. It was world famous for awhile. Even mentioned on Coronation Street! It weighed 3500 tonnes, and we moved it 180 meters, using 96 railway bogies and 8 sets of rails. It was train spotters paradise. I'm sure we set the world land speed record for hotels! 12metres an hour.
Now we are more of an art hotel, with a collection of more than 100 contemporary New Zealand works.
