“Average comfortable stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

Early check in appreciated, and with most of our stay the staff were very obliging however, our room - a small apartment, had several deficiencies. Within seconds of entering the room, a movable storage cupboard which housed both crockery and glassware, being top heavy, dislodged its contents (poor design or careless over stacking). To the credit of the housekeeper, this was attended to without fuss. Several lamps had blown bulbs throughout the apartment. At times the room was a little noisy due to it's proximity to their fitness centre. A comfortable bed albeit lacking in warmth. The biggest issue we had was our inability to obtain a constant stream of warm to hot water from the shower without flooding the entire bathroom. We appreciated this was a disabled room but seriously doubt a disabled or fully incapacitated guest could achieve a satisfactory shower. Staff are the best thing about this hotel.

Great central location and good service. Rooms really nice on the whole so nothing to complain about. Clean and comfortable overall. Joes garage for breakfast well worth the visit in the morning and Kazu for dinner. On another occasion week prior I was sick and under the weather so they upgraded me and a sunscreen thanks for the bath etc. really good service extended when travelling sick isn't much fun. Thanks very much to the trainee at the time.

Loved the location: 10 steps to the Te Papa museum and the harbour. Loved the room (it was in the apartment area): there were a shower and a bath, a fridge and a stove, a dishwasher and a washing-mashine etc. Very comfortable bed. In a word, it felt like home.
Good WiFi for reasonable price. Breakfast was not included so I tried it once - it is quite expensive but not bad. Dinner at Hippopotamus restaurant was good though.
And it called a Museum hotel for a reason. There are good contemporary art pieces in the lobby, so you'd spent some time exploring them all.

Fabulous location in close proximity to main Wellington attractions and university venues, the inside of the building is breathtakingly well styled and designed, giving an opulent sense of luxury and glamour to any visit. I also had the opportunity to dine in one of the function rooms at a formal dinner, catered by next door restaurant 'Hippopotamus', which was an excellent event in all regards.
My room was on the second floor in the apartment area. It was spotless, comfortable and well furbished, although a slight hitch with the dishwasher (a very well-concealed power switch proved tricky to find, although request for assistance was prompt and effective). All necessary provisions were present. Quiet and enjoyable stay.
The service was thoroughly average, especially with regards to the carparking system, where keys must be handed in at the counter and requested in advance when the car is required. Our keys were lost at one stage and turned up in someone's pocket. The staff at the desks were in general young and disinterested, and did not go any length to establish a rapport with customers, which with such a quirky interior would have heightened the stay immensely. A disappointment, but not directly influencing the quality of the accommodation.
Altogether still a very pleasant experience, I would recommend it unhesitatingly and hope I get the chance to stay again.

The service at the hotel was excellent. We were first palced in a room next to the guest laundry which was rather noisy. We asked to be moved but there were onyl lesser quality rooms avliable. We took one of these tooms and were given a bottle of red wine to compensate. The room is nice, but the bathroom showed wear and tear. The shower needed updating. Not "boutique" enoguh for the price.

Thanks for your comments. We agree, and are currently evaluating design options for a comprehensive refit of our older rooms. This will take some time, but we are aiming at completing the exercise this year if at all possible.
Hope you revisit and see what we have done.

Travelled to Wellington for a weekend of shopping and rugby at Westpac Stadium. The room was very comfortable with unique furnishings and art. The main areas of the hotel are fantastically adorned in rare exhibits and artwork. It's a real pleasure to sit amongst and enjoy this visual experience. Definitely good value for money.

My king size bed apartment on the fifth floor faced out the back of the building was clean, modern, well furnished and fully equipped with a kitchen. I had in room dining once, the pizza and salad were okay.
