“Great location, great value and great service!”
Reviewed August 27, 2011

Have just got back from a great weekend in Wellington, attending WOW! Our visit was enhanced by staying at The Museum Hotel. The location is amazing, right opposite Te Papa and they certainly provide a 5 star service! Our very recently refurbished 'Classic Deluxe' room was comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything we could need. The bed was king sized and sooo comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we would certainly stay again (providing we could get a great rate, as we did this time!!). VERY happy to recommend.

Choose this Hotel for quick access to TePapa Museum and Events centre as well as proximity to some of the better restaurants in Wellington. Try the Hippopotamus restaurant while you are here. Room selection on their Computer, was a little messed up when we arrived, but we ended up with a lovely King Sized bedroom with a harbour view. Rooms are clean and a large bathroom with a superb high pressure, high volume shower. Room serviced quickly in the morning.
Breakfast, as with all these business style Hotels, is expensive. There is a Bagel shop over the road (back door) serving a nice bagel and cream cheese and coffee for $6. More than adequate for a quick filling breakfast.
Funky artwork around the Hotel and lobby and this is a good hotel for a perfect location

They charge for Internet in the rooms, but it is free in the lobby and the lobby signal is available at least to our 2nd floor room (for free!)

Room Tip: Higher is better and the Harbour view rooms have a nice large balcony for summer

My wife and I spent 2 nights there. We drove up to the front door at noon. No bellhop or valet. Had to unload ourselves. Front desk apologetic. Got in elevator, which lurches as it arrives at a floor. Turned out both elevators had the same problem. The harbor view room was OK, but at night we heard - quite clearly - the TV from the adjoining room. Neither the room heater nor the bedside phone worked (they put in a space heater for us). Furnishings throughout the hotel ware shabby in spots. Unfortunately, the hotel is also architecturally quite ugly. The one good thing we can say about the place is that the staff is uniformy friendly and helpful. The restaurant looked expensive so we passed on it.

I can only apologise for the porter being otherwise engaged at the time of the guest arrival. A request to our reception staff for assistance would have acheived an immediate response.
As well as a wide range of art works, we also feature antique furniture in many of the public areas. I can only assume it was one or other of these items which appeared shabby. All other furniture in the Hotel is new or near new.
As to the architecture, generally our guests respond very positively. I regret that wasn't the case in this instance.

The Museum Hotel is located just off the central "party" strip of Courtney Place with its restaurants and bars/clubs and just across the road from the National Museum Te Papa and the sea front. It is a funky hotel with art of all types located throughout the hotel with the rooms being very smart in design. The staff were very friendly and polite and though we did not eat their its restaurant the "Hippopotamus" has a very good reputation for fine dining. Location cant be bettered for walking around the central city with plenty to see and do for the family.

Great hotel ideally located accross the road from Te Papa. Modern and very clean and a great haven in the bustling city of Wellington. Close to the waterfront and the nightlife of Courtney place.

haven't stayed at such a hotel before but lots of interesting art. Rooms ok except when showering, water runs out of shower area wetting the rest of the bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff which is a great plus. Lobby computers allow free internet access which is fantastic! Easy walk to everywhere in town. Visit to Te Papa (diagonally opposite) and Cable car is a must. From the airport, just grab the orange airport bus which saves on the taxi fare...

I stayed here for a conference (on site) and have stayed at many other hotels in Wellington but this was an awesome place to stay and will now be the only place to stay in Wellington. The location is great. The food at Hippo absolutely fantastic- only thing was poached eggs should have been soft on Eggs Benny- but as all my meals were there, that was a minor complaint. The french speaking waitstaff were a nice touch and I could practice my french with them. Good winelist. Friendly staff overall. The room, facing the waterfront did not have opening windows but had aircon. There was a desk, ample wardrobe space and roomy enough for one. My only complaint about the room was that the tv was far too big for the area so stayed off. Also, the sheets were far too crisp! The bathroom was dated but had a big bath which is a luxury. The art work is great and every time you go to a different floor or around a corner there is art. It makes for surprise at each turn.
