It's a nice hotel in a great central location with direct access onto both the Terrace and Lambton Quay. The breakfast is amazing so make sure you get a deal that includes it in your room price!

The rooms are of a nice size and the bathroom is quite spacious.

My only gripe is the cost of wifi access - yes you are given free access for 20 minutes or 20mb, but considering this is a 4 star hotel the cost of access above this is extremely expensive and quite unrealistic, especially when a lot of lower class hotels have access to free wifi. My tip is to head down onto Lambton Quay where there are a number of free wifi networks available.

A good hotel in the centre of Wellington. Location was it is good, room sizes are good and hygiene levels are fine. staff are helpful and happy to serve you (most of the times!). I also liked the breakfast very much, in fact it was the only 5-star thing about this hotel.
If you are like me, eating healthy and lots of fruits and soy milk in the morning then you would love their breakfast. if you are a bacon and egg, or meaty person in general, you would still give them 4 stars.
negatives:
1 - some of the breakfast staff were unresponsive and even rude! couple of the ladies were acting like "how dare you wake us up 6:30 in the morning to serve you breakfast!!!"
2 - lifts are old and definitely need replacement

Hi Ehsan V

Thank you for posting your review. Please accept my apologies for the unresponsive service at breakfast, this is certainly not the standard we are aiming for - your comments have been addressed with the breakfast team.

I hope we will see you back again soon

Stayed for a business trip during the week of the 11th to 15th of June. Have stayed in the hotel previously and thought it was missing something and a little dated. I am pleased to say that this was a really great stay with the James Cook and many areas of the hotel seem to have lifted their game. The staff were extremely professional on the whole and treat their guests with respect and seem to be on hand to attend to guests. Some things are a little rough round the edges with some staff giving different advice than other staff and some better communication between all the teams may be needed. The room was nice and and there was a great atmosphere around the hotel. Food in the restaurant was the best I have tasted in my stay with the James Cook and it was full most nights so maybe others agreed! Finally a special mention goes to a waitress in the restaurant.(I think she was called Jane) who seemed to go out of her way to make the evenings of other diners in the restuarant, including myself, really special. She engaged in friendly conversation with me when I arrived and also brought over some reading material when she could see I was dining alone. Her warm smile was really nice and I could see her treating other diners in this kind way. In an age where good service can be hard to come by, it was refreshing to see her attitude which really added to my evening. James Cook management, if you read this...this girl is a real asset to your organisation :)

Room Tip: Choose a room in the hotels lambton wing as they appear to be newer than the rooms that face the ter...

Perfectly acceptable spacious room in a city centre style hotel. We did not use any of the other facilities in the hotel. The hotel had easy access to the main shopping street.
