Requested king bed on line but they said when we got there, it would be 20.00 NZ a nite more. The air con in the room didn't work, the shower drained poorly and the volume control on the remote didn't work. the next day we told them our problems and they said they would fix them all by the time we returned. 6 hrs later, nothing was done. We were finally upgraded to a mini suite and the asst mgr sent us a bottle of wine. Very nice gesture.Good location to cable car, not alot of restaurants close by unless you want MacDonalds. Bit of a walk to the i-site location but doable. Very good buffet breakfast and buffet dinner. Valet parking very reasonable for a city hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the water. the mini suite had a corner view.

Hi there,
Thank you for your review. We do have a regular maintenance program in place and our housekeeping staff also check the air conditioning, remote controls etc. as part of servicing the room. Clearly in this case these checks were missed. I am disappointed to hear that these issues were not followed up in a timely manner. Please accept my apologies for this shortfall in our service. I do hope you will choose to stay with us again in the future.

Location wise, this hotel is perfect. Drive straight from the motorway into the hotel parking area. As soon as we arrived the porter was there to collect our bags. Check was easy and the porter was on standby to take our bags up to our rooms.

We stayed in the Lambton Rooms which means the windows in our rooms faced The Terrace (as opposed to being internally located, and your windows face other hotel walls. Nicely decorated although the bathrooms were a little dated (don't worry about this, it's our understanding that some rooms will be made over after the 2012 Seven's). One great thing about the bathroom though is that the explilaire is fantastic and removes all of the steam that comes from having a shower. No streamy windows.

Our group fell in love with the Resturant, and while we receive a substantial meal allowance, we were more than happy to spend every penny there. Alternatively the hotel offers a cafe in the lobby area where you can order a good breaky without the hotel prices. Every 2nd Wednesday their corporate team hosts a happy hour, and as luck would have it, we just happened to time our visit. Great hosting from the sales team and it was a great way to unwind from our day.

Just one last bonus about this hotel, their lifts also take you down to Lambton Quay, so leave the car in the garage knowing that if you do need it, the valet service will bring it up.

Our group are definitely James Cook fans and heads will probably roll if they'er booked anywhere else!!

Room Tip: If you're on business, traveling alone, and want some private space to work or relax, then consi...

Stayed for 4 nights. Room was average. Company paid for room so cannot comment on value for money. Good location, easy access to shopping area. But as what other reviewers said, you also get a lot of public using the hotel to get to the road downstairs.

Lifts has a card system for you to slot in and select your floor. Good safety precaution but did not work most of the time or maybe it was for only selected floors. Rooms had thin walls, I could hear my neighbor hanging their coat every time they got in. And wifi only in the lobby for 30 min per room per day!

Thank you for your review. The security card system in the elevators works for all floors except two – our functions floor and Whitby’s restaurant and bar, this ensures only guests and staff have access to the majority of our accommodation floors. I do appreciate your feedback and hope you choose to stay with us again in the future.

We found several things disappointing about this hotel. Apart from one pleasant person behind the front desk, the rest of the service was chaotic and unhelpful. The valet service is not really worth paying extra for. Our room was in a corner by the stairs and had no view. And we were given a twin room even though we'd booked a double.
Overall it wasn't terrible but we were hoping for a better experience.

Our room had that stuffy/outdated hotel smell to it. The service was very friendly. Upon entering the lobby, we thought the rooms would be nice but left more to be desired.

We had prepaid our hotel but upon providing a credit card for checking in, we were billed again. Upon informing the hotel, this was handled at a later date. Only cost us $10 US for exchange rates so not worth hassling over. The management handled very promptly for this oversight.

I hate 30 minutes of free wifi, just a tease. Most hotels in the states offer for free so frustrating to have to purchase elsewhere. Would prefer having this built into the room price. Not enough time to catch up on work e-mail or Facetime the kids.

Hotel was nice for one night passing through but don't think I would want to stay longer than a day or two. Good location for walking to everything.

A really great and refreshing experience. We spent 9 days there in November during a work/leisure stay in Wellington and can't speak highly enough of the accomodation and particularly the staff. Our room was on the 26th floor and well looked after and clean. The Club Lounge on the 26th floor was just great for that end of the day quiet drink and a few nibbles. Definitely worth the little extra to have 24hr access to freshly ground coffee, tea, cold drinks, fruit, wide screen TV, music, reading, internet and spectacular views. The weather was a shocker for a few days but the central location of the hotel gave you easy access to all the main parts of town and as easy retreat when the weather turned nasty. The dining room/restaurant, Whitby's, was great and the food consistantly good, whether for the buffet or dining out a la carte. Thanks to Michael in the Club Lounge and Lance in the dining room for your fantastic service and absolute professionalism towards your guests at all times.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for club lounge you won't be sorry. The staff were always checking if everyth...
