“Decent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

It is a good hotel with with friendly staff. The location is a little far from the downtown or main attraction areas. Parking too is limited but the staff makes different arrangements for you.
Parking is expensive all over Wellington though.

Service and food is decent as well - nothing great but not bad either.

Dear Parag K,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall.
With regards to our location just off Lambton Quay and Willis St I am sorry it was a little further to the places you wanted to visit, thankfully Wellington offers great public transport for the few places that are a little too far to walk.

Kind regards

We stayed for 3 nights and loved our stay from the minute we arrived. We arrived just after 10:00, and asked reception if they will store our luggage whilst we explored the city. Without us asking, reception checked with housekeeping and said the room was ready and we can check in...wow! This allowed us to freshen up from our flight before exploring the city. Our room was on the 20th floor and we found it to be quiet. The bed and pillows are comfortable ensuring a good rest. Packing space with drawers is however missing. The hotel is centrally located and is only a short walk to the Waterfront and/or main bus routes. Reception and house keeping staff are friendly and always ready to help. Finding the main entrance to the hotel can be confusing since it's via a parking garage, and the alternative entrance via "Plimmer's Steps" can be an "untidy" experience. Wifi is very expensive (if you are going to use it), and the Travelodge group needs to revisit their pricing policy in this regard. Besides these minor issues, I can recommend this lovely hotel to all.

Room Tip: For less traffic noise, ask for a room high up.

The hotel was hard to find and not obvious from Gilmer Terrace nor from Plimmer steps.

The rooms were perfectly adequate, designed for efficiency with most facilities that would be required, but they felt very sterile.

I found the breakfast very adequate, and better value if prepaid when checking in which gets a cheaper price and should be offered to everyone when checking in.

Wi fi rates at most NZ hotels are ridiculously expensive and this hotel charges too much.

Dear SnapperSnatch,
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to review our hotel. We can appreciate our location while a little tricky to find is right in the centre of Wellington and is one of our biggest strengths.
I do apologise that our discounted breakfast was not offered on check in; I have spoken with our team in regards to this.

Great location, within walking distance to everywhere, eg, Te Papa museum, botanic garden, shopping, harbour etc. Entrance of hotel was through the public garage. Reception check in was on the 7th floor. Room was simple and well equipped with microwave, mini fridge, electric kettle, hair dryer and a few cutlery. Milk already inside the fridge, in small coffee capsules containers. No aircon in room, during mid summertime. You need to open the window to let the cool air in. Wifi was ridiculously limited to only 20Mb a day. Just enough to check emails only. Within walking distance to the bus stop for the airport shuttle. New world supermarket only about 5-10 mins walking distance.

Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel, I am pleased you found it to your liking. In regards to the internet we do have various different options including 15mins (20MB) free in the lobby. There are additional paid options in the guest rooms. We look forward to your next visit.

Don't get caught up in the convenience of on site dining. At $23 for the cooked option you will get much better food and value just outside the Hotel. With no covers on the chafing dishes the sausages were solid and crispy and the bacon was more like 100 year old dried ham..solid and unable to be cut or chewed! There were no Danish as shown in the promo photos and the tea and coffee tasted like the sachet variety. Only one juice choice. The dated decor was dull although there was a basic atrium. Service was minimal and the tables only had salt and pepper. One of the wait staff actually sprayed the table next to ours with a potent commercial cleaner as we were eating. We ate half way through the service hours so there really is no excuse for such poor fare.

Room Tip: Make sure the room is made up when you arrive. We got there at 2.30 and had to wait in the hall whi...

Very nice hotel at a reasonable price for the weekend. Rooms are clean, large, and have almost everything you would may need. Wireless internet costs are ridiculous ($29). That is more then 25% over the room costs. Wireless is important to us, and I would never stay here again for that reason. No in room way to make coffee (real coffee not instant). That also is important to us also, number 2 after wireless.

Dear Pauljohnson1222
Thanks for reviewing the hotel and highlighting the reasonable price, and rooms were spacious and clean. I am disappointed to read the other comments you made that would lead you to not stay with us. Most hotels only offer instant coffee in the rooms. We do actually have rates that are a little higher than not only offer rooms with coffee machines with Nespresso Coffee but also free (unrestricted) internet. Internet within hotels in NZ is quite expensive and we are competitively price. Often if internet is included rates are higher and there are restrictions. Not all our travellers required internet so we like to give guest options. Rather than everyone be charge higher rates to cover the cost of internet.

Kind regards
Nigel Warwick

When booking this place I was expecting to get the same quality this chain has in Canada or USA. I had difficulties finding the place as the main entrance is literary from the public garage so one can imagine how disappointed I may be in that moment for choosing this place.
However, once we entered the hotel, it did exceed our expectations. This hotel is above the quality of the Travelodge chain and should be biffed one step up.
The location is perfect. The elevator exit is at the steps street where Wellington statue is. Harbour and all you want to see is just around the corner. Shopping street is right in front of you and even the Cortney Place (where the night life is) is about 15 minute walk.
Complimentary parking in above mentioned public garage. The only minus: 15 min complimentary Wi-Fi and only in the lobby. Reception people professional and correct but keep the distance. Someone might find it cold.

Dear drago_ca
Thanks for taking the time to review the hotel. I should probably start by pointing out that other than sharing the same name, the Travelodge Hotels in both New Zealand and Australia have no relationship with Canada, USA or the UK. Our 4 start rating does reflect to use your words “biffed up” status. I hope you had a great time traveling around New Zealand.
Kind regards
