Travelodge Hotel Wellington

For a central downtown hotel and the price we paid this was of acceptable quality. Clearly from other peoples reviews the hotel must have been recently refurbished as the standards throught were acceptable. Great value for what we paid.

The hotel was in a quiet location enabling a good nights sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful and gave me great details on how to drive to the ferry terminal and fill the rental upon the way.

Exitng from the hotel you are right down into the city and close to all the attractions

Dear Guest
Thanks for reviewing the hotel; the hotel was actually renovated in 2009 and has been well maintained. We now have new bedding this was introduced not long after your stay. We look forward to your next visit.

Okay the Travelodge is in a good location to explore Wellington. Once that is said there is not a great deal more I can add of a positive nature. Overall the hotel is about one level above being a dump. Our room was small and shabby. Everything in the hotel just screams "minimum maintenance". I suspect that if it wasn't for tour groups this place would shut down. The view from our room was office buildings, but this can't be helped in a large city. I was also disappointed that in a city the size of Wellington this hotel does not offer free Wi-fi. This was the last stop for us after a 2 week tour of New Zealand. Unfortunately they saved the worst for last.

Dear Guest
Thanks for reviewing the hotel; I am not going to debate your points you are entitled to your opinion. I only have one thing to add, if the hotel was as described we would not continue to receive a 4 star Qualmark rating, most recent review was in April. For those not ware Qualmark is the official government body that rates all hotels in New Zealand.

We had requested a high level room and had paid (not much) for a harbour view. Our room was small but had 2 windows so a nice thro breeze and yes we did have a view. The location was good for attractions of Wellington. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Pay for harbour view upgrade and request high level.

Dear Guest
Thanks for reviewing the hotel; I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. If you pay the little extra for the harbour view you will automatically get a room on the higher floors. We look forward to your next visit.

We stayed for four nights at the Travelodge. It is basic no frills, but clean and comfortable. We were in Room 1511 which was quite spacious, with a modern bathroom. The location is super convenient being right on Lambton Quay via an escalator or down the Plimmer steps. The hotel is great value for money. There was a small table and chairs in the room, and a microwave, although we did not use that, preferring to eat out. We received a daily paper, but that is on order and added to the bill. The only downside was that the escalators cease operating about 5-6pm on week days and the only way to the lifts from Lambton Quay is up 20 steps. This was inconvenient for my husband who uses a walking stick. The other option was to walk some distance up steep streets to enter via the parking building. Possibly the hotel needs to have its own escalator to the lifts off Lambton Quay.

Dear Guest
Thanks for reviewing the hotel; I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Wellingtons hilly geography can be a little tricky there is simply no where to put an escalator. For others reading this the escalator the reviewer is talking about is an adjacent building and a walkway leads through to Plimmer Step’s. As this is a private building we do not control the access times.

We left Napier after breakfast on the 328Km drive to Wellington stopping for a coffee after 2hrs lovely road side café made their own bread and cakes, then onto Pukaha Mount Bruce wildlife centre. The visitor centre was well laid out and food not to costly to walk round and be surrounded by bird song and at time seeing them in their natural environment is pleasing they also have a feeding time for eels some of which are over 50 years old. Arriving at the Travelodge 24th Jan Wellington in rain first we had seen in NZ, reception were very professional check-in took no time the only down side was $20.00 a day parking cost. We dined in the hotel at 8.30pm and were the only one's there it seams most folk in NZ tend to eat early. The room was spacious but lacked draw space, a most in Wellington is the cable car up to the Botanical Gardens don't make the same mistake we did and buy a return, from the top you have a fantastic view of the city but you then walk down hill to see the layout and the rose garden is at the bottom only a ten minute walk from the main road. Most of the restaurants and bars in the CBD are closed after 8pm so you need to head for Cuba Street or too the harbour front, take the ferry over to Day's Bay for a walk about a snack and then back to check out the many Museums Wellington as to offer 28th Jan off too the South Island

Room Tip: If all the rooms were like ours apart from lack of draw space there good

If you want a flash room with lots of space, a fabulous view and lots of facilities, you may want to look elsewhere. But if you want a good, clean basic room, in a great location then definitely consider the Travelodge. Particularly if you can get a good deal on the rate, it's a great base from which to explore the city of Wellington. We had absolutely no complaints about the service, the room facilities, the cleanliness or anything. That was all very agreeable and comfortable. But there was definitely no "wow" factor here, not that we wanted any. "wow" comes at a higher price.

This place is out of touch with reality. They want unbelievable internet fees when it is free all over town. We received no new shampoos one day, and it is a weird setup getting there. It is also very noisy, even on the 14th floor.

Dear Guest
Thanks for reviewing the hotel, internet is free throughout Wellington as provided by and paid for by the city council. To enjoy being able to use the internet in your own guest room, we have a range of payment plans. The rates we charge are similar to what you will pay in other Wellington hotels.
