Certainly one of the best in Wellington we have stayed at. Located close to the Motorway in Hawkestone Road and only a few minutes walk from the Wellington Bus and Rail termini. Staff were friendly and welcoming at all times. The room was clean, tidy and had everything there anyone would need. Breakfast was good with a buffet style. Car parking available although a little expensive compared to other hotels. I understand the owners are in the process of refurbishing the rooms. They have done a good job so far. We stayed at this hotel using a GrabOne voucher.

We stayed there from 12th-13th of january. When i made the reservation through phone, the person i had spoken to assured me that we would be checked in at around 8am (an earlier time because of our time of arrival); we had booked for 2 nights but will be checking out at 6pm on the 13th. All of these, i had explained through phone. When we got there at around 830am, tired and sleepy from the early flight, lo and behold! We were told that check in times were at 1230pm. When i had very calmly told the receptionist about my phone conversation with their staff, which i had even provided the name, she just said "the staff would never say that as it us our hotel policy that check in times are at 1230". And added that there were probably no rooms available before that time (which is unbelievable) She might as well say that i was lying. I was very, very angry with how this situation was handled. She could have clarified it with the staff i had spoken with or with their manager, and if the staff on the phone had given me wrong info, then that's ok. I would have gladly accepted an apology. But that girl. Tsk tsk. Even if we were given a room at around 10am, (good on them!) i was still angry with her i ended up having my boyfriend go to the reception just so i wont deal with her.

Dear Berlynq,

Thank you for your recent feedback on Tripadvisor. I apologise for the miscommunication on our behalf. Certainly no staff should have promised you an early checkin as our checkin time is 2pm.
While we do try to where possible, this request should not have been guaranteed.

Thank you again for your feedback and I will certainly be addressing this with the Front Office team.

Kind Regards
Jeff Hermes

Close to train station, bus routes and parliamentary precinct.
supermarket and a few eating places within two minutes walk.

super friendly staff in all areas.

the small bar fridge in each room much appreciated. as is the complimentary hot chocolate sachets along with the usual tea and coffee offerings.

sadly, the free wi-fi only available in the lobby area......about time it became standard and free feature for all rooms

rooms are smallish but very clean, and bathroom is spotless.

air con not good. I know it is not often needed in Wellington, but I could not find any air con controls in the room.

In summary, I will stay there again. The summer special they had was hard to beat.

Room Tip: I liked the room I had on the 8th floor overlooking the city an harbour.....but be prepared for nois...

Conveniently located in the business district of Wellington, its a short stroll to the main shopping strip. Reception was quick, very helpful and friendly. We were handed our room key and headed to our room. The room was pleasantly furnished and clean. The bed was fantastic, slept like a baby! Not to mention the two cots we got for our twin girls were both set up and ready when we got in the room. They slept like babies too! Must have been good.
Bathroom very tidy, clean and slimlined with plenty of fresh towels and toiletries.
We also had a wonderful view of the harbour from the 6th story. Television worked great too!
Breakfast buffet the following morning was reduced to $15.00 (normally $25), not sure why, but had plenty to offer. Hot and cold buffet tables, wide variety of breads for toast, also had a variety of juices, coffee and tea available. Dining area was clean and well maintained.

The only reason I stay at the Kingsgate is that its situated perfectly for central Wellington business and easy access to and from the motorway. The rooms are basic and tidy. Had concerns with the TV and could not access Sky channels. The room looked like it was ready for a refit and I understand that this was happening on the other floors. Service was basic but friendly. You do have to ask to have your room made up if you are staying more than one day or they will just leave it. The restaurant was ok but would not rave over a very small menu. Best to look at the many fine places dotted close by. Those with a vehicle, parking is first in, first served and costs to park there.

Room Tip: Higher rooms better view. East side get the morning sun and some views of the harbour.

I stayed at the Kingsgate for 3 nights and paid next to nothing (I booked through Bookings.com, maybe I got lucky and got some kind of deal). The rooms were clean and spacious, there was free wifi in the foyer and the reception staff were always helpful (if they weren't always cheerful and approachable). The option of a "green" door tag that can be used to tell the housekeeping staff to skip your room for a day was also a good touch!
The hotel is in a quiet part of town just a short walk away from everything which is good. I'm sure I'll be back.

We booked this stay through Treatme. It was amazing value for money. The Superior room was newly refurbished and well laid out. A trundle bed for our grandson still made the room an adequate size to get around in. The room was quiet and the view very pleasing. The hotel is situated within walking distance of the beehive and the train station. If you like a longer walk the central city isn't that far away. The staff were very efficient and helpful. I would be very happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Corner rooms seem to be a little more spacious.
