Did some volunteer work here and stayed overnight and it was very enjoyable. Loved the view and the penguins at night.

I love to take visitors here via the ferry and then have aft tea at eastbourne.
pity the ferry doesn't leave from seatoun and evans bay regularly.

Visited here a few times now and what strikes is the commitment to maintain this island as it is.....beautiful.

Easily accessible by short boat trip from Wellington. It is a smallish island with plenty to see. There was quarantine station and so remnants of stockyards. Also of course gun placements from way back when! There is a really interesting wind-up commentary down where near where you catch the boat back. It has various topics and short tales from those from that era. Good place for a picnic, bird watching and to let off some steam with a walk.

Great day trip. Caught water taxi from Wellington. Packed a good lunch with wine. Had great picnic lying in sun. Great views towards cook strait. Spent afternoon exploring island and trying to see as much wildlife as possible. It is important to keep an eye on time so you don't miss boat back to town.
