We dined here on our last night in Wellington as part of a girls long weekend away. Food was well priced, and drinks too. Service was very quick, friendly and upon telling the waitress when taking our order that we were on limited time due to a taxi booked for the airport, our meal was received within 10mins. Staff checked to see if we were happy with our meal, and returned twice to check we were ok for drinks.

Love the decor and the atmosphere, asked for a quieter table towards the back, which suited us. Would certainly dine here again, we really enjoyed it.

Great value mussels for lunch. And on Sunday and Monday you get 2-for-1. I love the Thai infused ones. There's always plenty and some lovely chips to accompany them.

Breakfast is also good, although Belgian breakfast may differ from the local palette. There's an excellent breakfast special for $7.90 too.

The coffee is mediocre though, which is a shame.

Thank Manks

Called in for late breakfast after hearing reports of real Belgian style food and atmosphere, breakfast steak and fries, cooked to perfection add a Belgian wheat beer and I was back in Belgium. The staff were great, polite and friendly, very attentive, great menu, great atmosphere, great pub style food, good coffee and for a treat on a cold Wellington day try the hot chocolate...I have been back often

In on Sunday night for impromptu family dinner. We were very impressed with the wait staff especially Max who welcomed us and the young children. The food and wine were grand and plentiful, with good options for sharing. The pot of mussels kept two of us happy and croque monsieur massive, loved the crab cakes. There was room for desert. What could be improved: the menu is just hard work to read, too much small print and cramming it in to allow both languages to be reflected is admirable but not customer friendly. Stayed with the wine list on this occasion, but on other visits have enjoyed the marvellous beer selection. Finally this is a charming old building that the pub makes the most of, with nooks and crannies, wood panelling, and a number of interesting artifacts.

This is one of those Belgian bars with a beer list that reads like a book. A book of awesomeness. They have a wonderful, huge selection of Belgian brews that makes this worth any trip. We also had dinner - mussels and waterzooi. The mussels, which are their specialty, were dry and tough, which was disappointing (other mussels we ate in NZ were fantastic). The waterzooi was...well...watery. It was like fish with the braising liquid, rather than more like a soup or stew, as I had several times in Belgium, so that was also disappointing. Maybe it was just an off night, but I'd still go back to try again, since the service was good and...well...did I mention the beer book?
