Owner description: Cruise with Interislander from Wellington to Picton across the Cook Strait and through the stunning Marlborough Sounds in just over three hours on the three largest ferries in New Zealand. Interislander is one of The Great Journeys of New Zealand and our three ships each feature several outdoor viewing decks that allow you to soak up the gorgeous New Zealand scenery as it floats by. They also have plenty of lounges, cafes and bars to choose from, plenty to keep the kids entertained - including children's play areas - and plenty for mum and dad too. Cars, vans, caravans, campervans, motorhomes, motorcycles and coaches - all vehicles are welcome, just drive on, drive off. And for the rental car providers, just drop off your car at the rental depots within our terminals then pick up another at the other end - easy! Interislander has been sailing happy holiday-makers across the Cook Strait for over 50 years, so you know you are in good hands. And with up to eleven sailings per day, our timetable is bound to fit yours. Don't just cross the Strait, cruise it with Interislander and make your perfect holiday, perfect from the very start.

Being the afternoon cruise during school holidays, the ferry was quite full during our recent trip. By the time the motorhomes were loaded and we were able to board there were very few seats left. Many tables that would accomodate 6-8 people had 2 people sitting at them. A bit thoughtless. Eventually after dragging ourselves + 3 kids around the ship for 1/2 hour, we overheard another family being told that they could sit in the upstairs lounge area even though it was supposed to be closed.
Facilities on board were good, small kids playground which was a bonus, also a games room (bring $2 coins). I didnt know about the cinema which our teenagers would have enjoyed if we had found out about earlier. Great idea to pass the time.
Food was as expected - packaged and a fairly decent selection. Coffee was much better from the gift store than the food court though!
A relaxing journey (once we had a seat to base ourselves from) with opportunities to go outside onto the decks for photos. Our large motorhome was catered for well, easy to drive on-off.

We booked the Premium Lounge for our crossing from the North to the South Island on our trip to New Zealand. We found the experience to be great. All the staff were very helpful and professional and we felt we were looked after very well, particularly by the young lass assigned to the Lounge that day. We had plenty of room and the lounge chairs were very comfortable as the rest of the lounges looked in other parts of the ferry. There was a good array of food in the Lounge and plenty to drink. The food is not five star but you can't expect that for the amount charged. The weather was terrible the day we traveled but the scenery was still beautiful. I would certainly recommend the Interislander and would not hesitate to travel the same way again.

There are plenty of places to sit and plenty of food available and I do not think it necessary to book into the lounge area during the off-season. However, if the ferry is likely to be busy it is probably a good idea. We did get an excellent breakfast and coffee (inclusive of the extra cost) and lunch on the way back. The scenery is fantastic and a brilliant way to travel.

We booked there premium lounge and spend the trip in dirty cabine. The seats and cabine was not cleaned for weeks. The food is disgusting and poor of choice and quality.
The scenery is beautifull, but you expect at least a clean place. Staff average and not really interested in the job. One advice, better fly then sail

Great way to get from North to South Island. Relaxing, affordable and magnificent scenery. We did the upgrade for 1 trip which was good but not totally necessary.
