We needed space for a group of 10 on a Sunday night and Duke Carvell's came to the rescue. We decided to leave the food choices up to the kitchen and after confirming a price per head ($40) sat back to see what would come out. The highlight of the three entrees was their signature flaming cheese with grilled bread - superb. The main course was a huge slow-cooked leg of lamb and a paella to share with plenty of sides as well. We enjoyed some great wines and beers from the extensive list with our meal. The food was so generous we couldn't possibly have squeezed in dessert. Our only niggle was that the venue was incredibly hot. Yes it was summer but a fan to move the air around would have been great. Great food, a relaxed atmosphere and good beer. We'll be back!

We were wandering around Cuba Street hoping for something, anything, that appealed. My wife caught The Duke out of the corner of her eye. Lucky us! A variety of small plates and some huge ones for sharing. Best rack of lamb that has ever passed my lips. Friendly service in a neat little bistro with really interesting art all around. Good choice of craft beer as well. Great meal, great vibe. Would go back any time.

We stumbled across Duke Carvell's when wandering along Cuba Street. Loved it. Great atmosphere, interesting clientele, likewise the staff, who were also very friendly and helpful.

Best of all for me was that there were things on the menu that fitted my complicated dietary needs perfectly, with no need to ask them to adjust things at all. And it all tasted great too - what more could I have asked?

Dining with a difference and a perfect place to go in a group. Shared platters of really fine food are the signature here. We had the lamb, which was superb, backed up with various veggies. Really good staff, with a decent knowledge of both food and wine from the local area. Worth a visit for those who've never been.

Took out of town guests. They loved it. Very tasty and far more than just Tapas. The lamb shoulder with beetroot and the red cabbage is great.Really good friendly service and their Pino from the Wairarapa is highly recommended.
