Not a great experience....we arrived at 5pm and were allocated a room. As we walked into the room it became apparent that the cleaning had not been done at all so the sheets were not changed, the bed not made, there was food on the kitchen bench and rubbish on the table. I contacted reception and was told that she would send the cleaners up to the clean the room shortly. I found this shocking so refused this offer and asked to be moved to another room that was clean! I couldn't believe this since check out is 11am and we arrived at 5pm so they had plenty of time to clean the room!! We were moved to a similar 2 bedroom room two floors down. This room was clean and had an pretty good view. The location of the hotel is great and other than the dirty room we arrived to, the hotel itself is clean and nicely presented.
The 2 bedroom room is a good size and has a nice balcony and fully equiped kitchen. The room nearest the road was not comfortable to sleep in however as there was noise from the road at night/early morning and we woke to hot sun beaming in through the windows and it was like sleeping in an oven (no air con and only thin blinds that don't work properly instead of curtains). It is nice that there are two doors you can open to let fresh air in however.
I wouldn't recommend using the indoor 'heated' swimming pool (as it is advertised on their website) during winter or if you have children. We were looking forward to taking our 3 year old son for a swim in the 'heated' swimming pool only to discover that you have to walk through a dirty, cold car park to get to the pool and once you get to the entrance there is a door that you need a separate key for as your room swipe card doesn't work (would have been nice to have this explained at check in as we walked across the car park and then back down to reception and then back across the car park to the pool). The pool is down a set of stairs at the bottom of the car park with cold air blowing through holes in the wall and the pool is NOT heated. We had a quick swim and then had to take our cold, shaking 3 year old across the cold car park and back into the hotel room to get warm. We didn't use the gym but it did look like quite a good one, with lots of equipment to choose from.
One other complaint is that they don't have bag trolleys so you need to park your car out the front of the hotel, lift everything into the entrance, move your car to the car park at the rear of the building, move all of your bags (we had quite a lot of stuff) to the lift and then to your room. The lady at reception kindly helps us to do this but it would have been more helpful to have a trolley.
The lady at reception was apologetic about the room not being cleaned and gave us free wifi for the duration of our stay but unfortunately our experience of the hotel was not good by that stage and we were happy to check out. I have spent less per night at other hotels in Wellington and had a much better stay so won't be returning to this hotel.
