Description: The Taste of Our Place - Kia Ora, Kai, Kaitiaki. At Logan Brown, you'll experience a welcoming, inspiring and genuine taste of our place, our people and the produce that makes you proud to be a New Zealander. We opened in December Friday the 13th in 1996 and decades later it is way different but still the same! We have evolved with dining trends, service styles, taken opportunities with new product and techie innovations and of course will continue to do so. What has never changed is the sharing with our guests our true passion for our craft, our community and our country. We want everyone to be as proud as we are about New Zealand’s environment, the land and seas bounty, and the amazing people who harvest or produce from it. Working closely with these passionate producers inspires and excites the team who are proud to share their stories, and we always welcome new seasons and new to the market produce from suppliers and give it a go.

The interior is attractive and interesting (a former bank?). The staff are very pleasant and helpful, without being intrusive. I asked for a menu item to be adapted to suit me, and they created a very tasty dish. Mains are extremely good (if a little meat-heavy in the selection) and puddings a delight. This is a restaurant to visit on a special occasion, perhaps, and to be appreciated accordingly.

Missed out on dining here on a visit a year ago so made sure we had a booking well in advance this time. Service attentive but not intrusive. Wine list well chosen both on local and Aus wines and reasonable value but a real bugbear of mine - they were out of their only 09 Pinot Noir by the glass and offered only their other two 2011 options. Daylight between the 11's and the 09 but no substitute offered for choice by the glass. Its an easy thing to manage. The Yalumba Shiraz Viognier was good though. Duck with pulled pork seemed an odd combo but was excellent, veg side dishes were good but overall choice from the menu hardly inspirational. Comparisons - Euro on our first visits better but not as good last time; Two Chefs in Dunedin better; Saggio Devino Christchurch better but more expensive; Pegasus Bay Winery Restaurant North Canterbury the best of the lot. Al Brown's a Kiwi food hero but has gone from the restaurant. Still, recommended.

Food, especially starters and mains are on Michelin star level. However the staff is certainly not, routine and not really listening to their guests, no joy there. Prices are a reflection of the ambition this restaurants has, though it can not fully live up to it. Staff are occupied selling (uhh do you want NZ sparkles, no French?) rather than making your experience stellar.

We are very sorry that you got the impression that the waiter was pushy on sales.
That is the last thing any of our team would want you to feel.
Our first and most important value is having a genuine spirit of hospitality.
For us, the enjoyment of our guests experience comes before sales.
The waiter was just clarifying which sort of sparkling wine was ordered because sometime guests order "champagne" but they mean sparkling.

We had the pre theatre menu and enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. The decor is stylish and the service friendly but highly professional. The menu choice was interesting and did not disappoint through all three courses. Our waitress (from Leeds, England) was delightful. The owner chatted with us on the way out and was also helping with serving. We would recommend it highly.
