Went on the Weta workshop tour today $20 for an hour tour. The tour area was rather small but the young South African lad who took us on our tour was fabulous. He was extremely informative and fun and certainly made it worth while. Some amazing sites to be seen

We loved the troll statues in the garden, great photos from here and was a fun place to visit. Tour was really interesting and a great price.
$20.00 for a great tour to learn about special effects , this worked great to visit before going north to see the Hobbiton movie set. The staff is from all around the world. our guide was form South Africa.was knowledgeable and funny.

No movie buff should leave Wellington without visiting Miramar's Weta Cave.Small but perfectly formed...and free too! Although you can pay for a guided glimpse behind the scenes at one of the worlds most famous special effects studios; many will be happy just to browse a selection of movie collectables and memorabilia and watch a short movie with highlights of many of the films that have made Weta famouse. Two thumbs up!! Can get busy if your visit coincides with scheduled stop for for mini coach tours visiting movie locations in the area.
We prepped ourselves before our visit by watching all the Lord of the Rings movies so it was all fresh in our minds. The items in the cave were amazing to see with the images still so vivid for us. There is a lot of detail in the items in The Cave which means you could be wandering through for some time, but it is quite small and packed when folks are waiting for their tours to start.
The tour of the studio was a creative person's heaven! Matt, our guide, showed us how props went from concept to creation, the tools used to create some of the props and discussed an enormous amount about movie making, movie history, and special effects. Plus he cracked the best dad jokes! The tour is not expansive of the facility, but they cover a lot of cinematic ground in a small space. We loved the tour and could have stayed all day discussing the ins and out of what they do there, and our 8 and 11 year olds were just as captivated.
