Owner description: The Qualmark endorsed Weta Cave is your gateway to two immersive film-making experiences on the Miramar Peninsula: Our Weta Cave Workshop Tour provides a unique peek behind-the-scenes through windows into our Workshop. Our story of film-making creativity is told by members of our crew on a tour full of authentic props, models and weapons from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Motion Picture Trilogies, and more. They may even reveal a few of the secrets behind the movie magic! Step onto a live shooting stage for our guided Thunderbirds Are Go Behind-The-Scenes Experience. This journey into our latest handcrafted world, reveals the authentic set pieces, props, and models that bring to life this contemporary retelling of the beloved TV classic. FAB. A cavern of creativity, the Weta Cave shop also boasts sculptures made by the filmmakers at Weta Workshop, prop replicas, apparel, jewellery, books and more. While you’re here, take a seat for a free film about the history of film-making on the Miramar Peninsula. It screens throughout the day. Ticket prices for either the Weta Cave Workshop Tour or Thunderbirds Behind the Scenes Tour: Adults: $25, Children 6-12 years: $12, Infants (5 and under): FREE, Family Pass (2 adults + 2 children) $60

Too popular - lots of people squashed around the film area wanting to be first in! Big wait and not much to do. Very cramped but great effects and interesting history.

Thank heykuri

Thanks for visiting Heykuri!

Yes, it can get rather busy and hectic in there!

Since your visit , we have opened up a new 'exhibition space' - the 'Window into Workshop', which is a great place to visit (right next door). Its another 'behind the scenes' look at what Weta Workshop does, has heaps of cool stuff to look at, and currently, the staff working in there have worked in the workshop itself!

If you're ever in Wellington again - come and visit.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback!!

Glad you enjoyed the tour.
The 'Hosts' - as we like to call them - are loving the opportunity to talk about their work with the fans as well - and yes, we did snaffle them from the workshop floor so their experience is first hand!

Cheers

The Weta Cave shop was good with but the workshop was something else. The staff were enthusiastic, patient and knew their stuff. Definitely worth paying the $20 for the workshop tour. Bus # 2 gets you there from downtown Wellywood. There is also a nice walk over the hill to the east to some great beaches.

Hi Stevokid!

Glad to hear you enjoyed our newest venture!
I agree that the staff in there are awesome - having worked in the workshop previously, they know all the ins and outs of what goes on inside!

And thanks for being the first person to review our new space!

Small but filled with knick knacks & movie memorabilia. The short video was really interesting. Too bad they don't actually let you see the inside of their studio and workshop though.

Hi Endrea

Thanks for visiting! I see you visited us in August - if you pop back over to us now we have just opened a new exhibition space 'Window into Workshop' that gives you that little bit of extra insight into the going ons at Weta! Super exciting
