“Small plates, big flavour”

Small plates to share were delicious. 3 of us shared 7 and that was enough for lunch. 2nd time visit Lamb salad was superb but Seafood Ramen was not nice. Could not eat it. Chicken tama rice was bland.

“Lower expectations”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

It wasn't my first visit to Wagamama, but it should be my last. It's worth returning even after 1 bad experience as that might be unusual. After 2 though...
The style isn't to my taste. You queue for a table then you wait for the waiter to eventually get your order then you get food delivered at some point. My main course arrived at the same time as dessert (which is fine, as this was warned as possible), but that was 10 minutes after my wife's main had arrived. The fact that we didn't receive the water we'd asked for didn't help, especially as we had a baby with us, limiting our flexibility.
As for the food, well it lived up to my previous experience as Asian food cooked by someone who had seen pictures. It looked right, but had no discernable flavours. The noodle soup was very watery and the decent-looking ingredients had lost all their life in the bath.
Sadly the desserts, which had been excellent on our previous visit had really dropped in quality and interest. Apple gyoza were mostly pastry and the fried bananas had lost their life.
The space was good for the baby buggy, but with the way the restaurant is laid out, you'd expect people not to have to sit next to babies when there are lots of spare tables. Fortunately ours only cried a little so our neighbours were only a little inconvenienced.

“Wagamama at its worst!”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

The view is great, but that is about it!

I think the lowlight was trying to return undercooked chicken to the kitchen only to be told "that is how the chef serves it, it's the marinade that makes the chicken look uncooked". Now I'm not a chef, but I do cater parties and I'm fairly certain that when the bones are pink and so is the juice coming from the wings......it's not cooked!

“Yummy casual dining”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

I had a great lunch with a friend at Wagamama's Wellington. Wagamama's is part of a chain so they have a stock-standard format for dining - long communal tables, paper placemats which the waiters write your orders on, simple no-fuss dining. If you are looking for a bit of privacy and intimacy for a hot date, don't come here - it's buzzing with other conversations and busy.

We ordered the chicken dumplings (tasty), deep-fried prawn (tasty), wok-tossed greens (a nice combination of bok choy etc and they were cooked excellently and still had crunch), and the deep-fried chicken pieces which were recommended by the waiter and were very tasty, however it is not chicken wings or drumsticks more like small chicken bits marinated, herby and crispy. I also ordered an orange juice and a Kirin beer which arrived promptly.

Wait staff were really friendly and helpful, couldn't fault them.

Nice location at Wellington waterfront.
