The view is great, but that is about it!

I think the lowlight was trying to return undercooked chicken to the kitchen only to be told "that is how the chef serves it, it's the marinade that makes the chicken look uncooked". Now I'm not a chef, but I do cater parties and I'm fairly certain that when the bones are pink and so is the juice coming from the wings......it's not cooked!

I had a great lunch with a friend at Wagamama's Wellington. Wagamama's is part of a chain so they have a stock-standard format for dining - long communal tables, paper placemats which the waiters write your orders on, simple no-fuss dining. If you are looking for a bit of privacy and intimacy for a hot date, don't come here - it's buzzing with other conversations and busy.

We ordered the chicken dumplings (tasty), deep-fried prawn (tasty), wok-tossed greens (a nice combination of bok choy etc and they were cooked excellently and still had crunch), and the deep-fried chicken pieces which were recommended by the waiter and were very tasty, however it is not chicken wings or drumsticks more like small chicken bits marinated, herby and crispy. I also ordered an orange juice and a Kirin beer which arrived promptly.

Wait staff were really friendly and helpful, couldn't fault them.

Nice location at Wellington waterfront.

This place is very casual with wooden tables and chairs that is sort of communal ie you share with others and paper mats that the servers write your order on. The food is good although nothing to be too excited about. This isn't a traditional Japanese restaurant but as other reviews have stated more asian fusion. This place is always packed on peak times so either go early or late. The timings of orders can be a bit touch n go ie the food comes out as they are ready and not all in one go so if you're in a group one can be finished with a main while someone else is still waiting. Hence if you are fussy or on your first date or wanting to talk business or something intimate then not the place to go to. All in all it is worth a try for a casual time out.

Wagamama outles throughout NZ offer consistently good food - good sized portions, a great menu, fabulous juices and it's reasonably priced too.
Not all is rosy however. Your food doesn't always arrive all at once when dining at Wagamama, which is usually fine if you have only a five minute wait or so. Unfortunately on our most recent visit, with the restaurant full, one of our party of four had finished her main course before the other three were even delivered to our table. The wait staff were operating well under obvious pressure but delays like this are simply not acceptable to most New Zealand diners, and it put a dampener on our visit.

The starters were amazing and we really we looking forward to our mains, but we were all disappointed. The wait staff were wonderful though.
