Tucked away in a wee corner on the CBD fringe is one of the very best restaurants in Wellington. Situated on Tinakori Rd, it is an easy short walk away up Hill St or Glenmore St from Parliament and provides the opportunity to seethe older historic Thorndon area. Bistro style, it offers the options of a set price for two or three courses. i have introduced many visitors and friends to Charlie Bill's and unlike some other Wellington restaurants, the food is of consistent high quality and reliably the very best. The cuisine is fresh, simple, perfectly cooked and flavour combinations reflect the highly recognised skill of the chef who is happy to share his secrets and discuss cuisine with the customers. Charlie Bill's wine list reflects its commitment to promote NZ wine. Front of house is the friendly, helpful and relaxed with the formality of the service intuitively adapted to the requirement of the customers by one of wellington's top Maitre D's. All in all, I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. On the more critical side I would wonder why it is only open for dinner at night and not for lunch where it would quickly be supported by visitors walking this historic suburban look. I would love the menu to change a little more often as I go there with some frequency and it is a little slow to reflect the seasonal change of product. I know the low rating on this site at the moment simply reflects the fact that is is undiscovered and i am a little reluctant to share my experience of this little known foodie gem as at the moment I can always get a booking but suspect this will change.
