“PERFECT STAY IN EVERY WAY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2011

Can highly recommend this hotel - stayed 2 nights for wedding anniversary. Had a lovely room with gorgeous views. Room extremely clean, with lovely bathroom with bath and shower with good pressure. Viewed "spa" unit, and the spa bath was not much larger than standard bath supplied in our room, so decided not to pay upgrate $. Breakfast was sensational, and sitting on the deck on a beautiful morning was a great way to start the day. Staff all extremely friendly and helpful. No problem with parking. Will definitely stay again when in Tauranga. Our stay exceeded our expectations.

Room Tip: sea view definitely worth paying for.

A typo on the Sebel Tauranga's web page - located in the PAY of Plenty. Obviously they take this typo seriously because you do have to pay, and pay, and then pay again. Pay for Wifi access (which you can only use in the lobby), pay for a newspaper, pay for the coffee for the plunger, pay a lot for an average meal.

The day we were in Tauranga was a beautiful 27 degree day, so we thought an early afternoon swim would be nice. Only problem is, the pool only faces east - and is surrounded by the hotel on all other sides, which means we froze, and left after 5 minutes. So unless you want to use the pool in the morning, forget it.

As it is quite at walk to other restaurants, and not wanting to lose our precious parking space, we decided to dine in at the restaurant, even after seeing the exorbitant prices. My husband's steak was overcooked, which even the waitress could see and she would "tell chef about it", but that was all we got! Then it was time for bed - and no sleep. The walls must be paper thin, and you could hear oher guests coming back at night, showering, toileting (not nice), and whatever else they were doing.

We were very disappointed, but I guess we should have know better - it is a Mirvac hotel!

The view thing is a bit over rated..tiny balcony very close to others..not private, tiny peak of the sea. Also felt that they had not listened to what I had been very specific in asking for when booking...however did give us a nicer room when I rejected first room...lucky we checked in early. Bathroom was nice and roomy. Yucky tea sachets....where's my Earl Grey?? If travelling with kids, no kids channel at all. Parking is an issue...came back from dinner and no park...altho when asked they mentioned below ground parking (might have been good to warn us on the wedding happening there and parking issues when we checked in). Bit of a walk to get to restaurants and shops, wear comfy shoes. Had the breakfast buffet .....adequate food, but stunning location and restaurant staff were lovely.

I was in Tauranga during my vacation and decided to stay in Sebel, we stayed here for 4 days, our main reason for choosing this hotel was that it was very much convieniently located in the main city of Tauranga ,resturants, bars, hopping, saloon is just walking distance...... I must say from the moment you walk into this hotel you will be greeted by the friendliest team of staff from frontline to the breakfast bar even the housekeeper and the porter.... I am very particular about customer service I don't mind spending more $$$$$ as long as I get superb service that matters. This hotel was worth spending time...... just great. !!!!!!! The hotel itself is very nice, the room we were given was lovely inside, very large and hughe bathroom, it's just that the hotel gave the impression it was more for buisiness than pleasure. The pool is tiny and not in a good location. The gym is tiny and the equipment poor and worn out. The restaurant was too expensive and we did not eat in it. The service from reception was impersonal.
Our room overlooked the car park, and unfortunately the hotel is directly in front of the goods train line that runs to the port so we were disturbed by the sound of trains rumbling by in the night.
The location of the hotel is handy for the 'city' but the views are industrial, I suppose it is on a 'wharf' though.
We felt let down by our stay here, but that was not just the hotel, it was Tauranga, theres nothing much there at all, but of course this just our opinion.

After reading previous reviews regarding this hotel - we had to try it - we are looking to form our own opinion - we loved it !!!!
The room was great - location of the room good - we wanted peace and quiet which was a big ask as we stayed the weekend that bought the end of Cyclone Wilma to the Bay
The bathroom is exceptional - cleanliness was excellent
Room service great - staff polite - and the bonus getting a decent coffee at a great price :-) without leaving the hotel
We had lunch @ Halo - very reasonably priced and great food - service again was great
Sooo what you read on trip is not always right - I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will be going there again

We arrived just after lunchtime on New Years eve for a two night stay. Around 1:30pm there were still plenty of spaces available in the carpark, however a couple of hours later it appeared to be quite full (first come first served). Check in was quick an easy, some friends of ours arrived a night earlier and arranged for our rooms to be next to each other. Very good of them. Originally I enquired about a booking over the phone and was advised there was nothing availble in a King - Twin beds only. As it was only myself and my wife I declined and we found an option through a discount website that offered a King...a little bizzare I could get this off the website but not directly through the hotel.
The room itself was beautiful, a good size, with a minibar available, a nice table and chair and modern furnishings. A comfortable king size bed and plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom had nice floor heating and the shower was comfortable. The room was serviced around 3pm, but suited us as we had other things planned - they did change the towels and sheets.
Even though we booked a superior balcony (no view normally) we were in rooms 111 and 113 out the side of the hotel where there is a little grass area that overlooks the bridge and some water, which was nice and unexpected (apparently our friends original balcony room before they shuffled us to be next to each other was looking into the trees, and I noticed some overlook the carpark, so worth noting when you book).
The coridors are quite noisy with doors slamming constantly, but as I'm a heavy sleeper this didn't bother me too much. The pool was great, an infinity pool overlooking the harbour. Great the first day, but on the second it was taken over by about 5 boys in their early 20's, drinking and making a bit of noise so we (and everyone else) avoided it... still a beautiful, though somewhat small pool. We had a drink at the restaurant/ bar New Years eve and it was just magic looking accross the water to the hills beyond. Beautiful location and when we walked home from the evenings activities, it was only about 10 minutes stroll from town, so no worries about a taxi, nor haivng to put up with the late night partying noise (We did get a taxi there to save the heels which cost around $7.50). The only complaint I have is about the food. For $30 I'd say the full buffet is
around the same I get at other 4 star hotels. Unfortunately two of our party ordered omletes - my wife asked for no onion and low and behold go onion... our friend
asked for no mushroom - again mushroom was served amidst a rather gooey, undercooked omlete. They were polite and took both meals off the bill, but we didn't eat there again. I also had room service the night before and around $50 the dry spaghetti bolognese and crusty ham and cheese toasted sandwich were a little overpriced. There are plenty of great places on the strange, so I'd suggest taking a 5 minute walk there.
When checking out, we did have a strange $25 charge turn up on the bill, which they removed and acknowledged the error. Staff were great on every occasion.
Overall a beautiful hotel, lovely location pricing is fair (we paid $480 for two nights, but it was over NYE. Normally we'd get a premium waterview spa for that).
I would stay here again, probably paying the extra for a waterview.
