Silverbirch Holiday Park and Motel
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We booked this motel unit over the Christmas period, hoping for a relatively good place to base ourselves. The price was well over what it was worth - welcome to Tauranga holiday pricing.

The room was tired and dusty. We had one teaspoon, no oven tray, no blind in the kitchen. I had to phone up twice to get the linen service. While the drunken fight in the pool outside our windows wasn't the owner's fault, it was a clear reflection of the clientele staying in the holiday park. And I shouldn't have to explain to the guy on security that fighting (and drawing blood) in the pool was not acceptable.

This is a motel unit in a holiday park squarely aimed at the market many other holiday parks try to exclude. I shouldn't be asked to pay $175 a night for that.

We have been travelling in a campervan through New Zealand for the past 5 weeks and have stayed at 11 sites in the South Island and Silver Birch was our 5th in the North. All the others were of an excellent standard with first class facilities. This is the poorest, but strangely the most expensive at $52 for a powered site.
The showers were old and shabby, the kitchen was disgusting and we couldn't bring ourselves to cook in it.
We made a mistake, don't make the same one
