Booked this accommodation and gave credit card details to secure booking. As we lead a very busy life and have various work commitments, checked our emails to find the booking notification. Nothing found. Arrived in Tauranga for a conference and panicked that we had no accommodation confirmed so booked into the hotel that the conference was held at. Received a call from The Armitage to ask if we were going to check in. Relayed the story and they advised that a cancellation fee would be charged. We advised that we were ok with the fee only to find that the whole accommodation of $260.00 had been taken from our credit card. Had it been a Friday or Saturday night I could understand but as it was a Tuesday night I find it hard to believe that they would have been turning people away and feel that they took advantage of us and charged the whole amount to our card. WOULD NOT recommend that you stay here if that is how they treat potential repeat customers.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you were unsatisfied with the way that your booking was handled. After investigation, we have discovered that your booking was made through a third party website, that should have sent you a confirmation email when you booked through them. The booking that was made was for 2 rooms for 1 night, and as per the terms and conditions of the website that you booked with, it does have a 24 hour cancellation policy with the first night's accommodation charged, per room, which is why both rooms were charged. We will speak with the third party website to see why there was a breakdown in communication for your booking. Once again, we are sorry that you feel we did not handle your booking well, and we will look at ways of improving the way that the third party websites cancellation charges are handled and explained to our guests.

Best wishes,

Hotel Management Team

Great facilities - we stayed one night and enjoyed a hot bath and free wifi in a very comfortable setting. Only issue would be the TV reception was rubbish for some reason. Would stay here again. We got a deal that included a breakfast which was nice.

The best thing about The Armitage is the friendly staff. The food was terrible. the beds had roll together and the walls are thin enough to provide an evenings entertainment from the neighbours. The bar and lounge are comfortable and the decor an interesting olde worlde mix with modern. No draught beer. We had a duvet on our bed with no cover but a few stains. The sheets were clean. Outside of the hotel is in need of sprucing up.... flaking paint. Bathroom was refurbished and huge. Very hot water...beware. At reception there is a sign asking for candid comments to be posted on tripadvisor, so here it is.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with no neighbours if you want peace.

We found this place really nice and warm. The people who worked there were very nice and also welcoming. They all said hello and had a very nice comment. The room was very spacy and comfortable. Our room had "EVEN A SPA BATH', what a luxury. There was more than enough parking space. Breakfast was very generous and again we were sitting in a very nice surrounding. We liked this area very much, looking out onto the swimming pool. We will come again when we are going to Tauranga. Go Armitage, you are great!!!

We stayed 2 nights in the large 6-person unit, which was very spacious with a large sitting room and adjoining dining area with a large table. The furniture in these areas was excellent and comfortable and in good condition. There was a large kitchen which provided most everything we wanted. There are 3 bedrooms wach sleeping 2 or 3. The beds were all rather bouncy, and the bedclothes were only just big enough for the beds. The shower and toilet were pretty unreconstructed 1970s, the latter with cheap bathroom tissue. A big downer was the very noisy gathering downstairs on the Saturday night whicvh went on until about 12.30 -- very loud music, difficult to sleep in the room we used, though other rooms in the area were slightly quieter. A positive with this area is the direct access to the pool below, but this was not much use in mid-winter! However, at $300 per night for us all, it was a good deal despite the drawbacks. An easy walk to the town centre.

Room Tip: At weekends, the side closer to Tauranga town may be quieter.

What a pleasant surprise! Like walking into a historical building. Room is quiet, comfortable and clean. Heating and television modern. I love the red carpet, leather and wood. Easy car parking and walking distance to town and work (Court house). Staff are pleasant and helpful. Thanks Armitage

Stopped in for a night at Hotel Armitage during our honeymoon having read positive reviews. When booking our room we decided to take advantage of the 'rep special' for dinner and breakfast vouchers.

Our dining experience was awful, for the following reasons:
1. I was told the soup of the day was a creamy mushroom, when it arrived it was cold tomato soup.
2. Waitress was slow, had no knowledge of the menu or options.
3. Waitress did not return to the table to give us the opportunity to note the mistake or make a complaint.
4. My main course of chicken and bacon fettucini was bland and the chicken was burnt black.
5. Another dinner received both their starter and main before our food had been received, despite us placing our order 20 minutes before he had arrived in the restaurant.
6. The 'lamb steak' was actually a lamb stew.
7. Not given an opportunity to order a drink, we were only given water on the table.
8. On trying to address the issues we were met with awkward laughter and no apology.

Furthermore, we have since discovered that a continental breakfast is currently included in the price we paid for our room as a part of the 'winter special' advertised on the hotel website. This is not something we were made aware of when booking at reception and so have paid excessively for awful food, terrible service in the restaurant and a black mark against Tauranga on our Honeymoon trip through North Island.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We appreciate your feedback on your dining experience, and have taken the opportunity to review some of our restaurant practices. We apologise once again for not being able to give you a positive experience, but hope that our efforts to improve your experience on the second night went some way to make up for it. We hope that you enjoy your time continuing to travel around New Zealand, and we wish you all the best for your new married life.
