Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary
Reviewed August 19, 2011

This was my first trip to New Zealand and I was really curious and looking for something a bit different. I found New Zealanders to be incredibly friendly and hospitable; none more so than Tim and Debbie Short, my hosts. They are a wonderful wealth of natural history information and never tired of my questions! This is a lovely, restful place, with native trees and lots of birds. I recommend Mount Tutu in a heartbeat - be sure to take the glow worm walk. I almost didn't; it was a damp rainy evening and I didn't much care to go beating around the bushes - but they lent me raingear and boots and I couldn't believe how magical it was. Don't miss it!

Debbie and Tim were great hosts and made our visit to New Zealand very special. Glow worm forest trek was more than I could have imagined.

I booked this because it sounded a bit different. It certainly was. First, it was the most welcoming hospitable place I have ever stayed. The stay includes a glow-worm experience which was an adventure a 70-year-old could enjoy, and a bush walk. We opted to have dinner there. It was a great home-cooked dinner at a low price. The rooms are small but self-contained and very nice and comfortable. I'd recommend this to anyone, but especially to anyone showing overseas guests a bit of NZ.

This was one of our best stays in NZ. Our hosts treated us like family and shared an amazing time with us. The "Glow Worm" walk at night was awesome. We have never experienced anything like that. We were also lucky enough to have the "Short Sisters" perform for us after a great dinner. Our cottage was very comfortable and the walks around the property were a real delight. We were close enough to Tauranga to enjoy both the beach and the nightlife. This was one of our best stays in NZ. A big thanks to the Short family.
