“Awesome Night Kayak!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

Grant took us out to Lake McLaren at night to experience a Glow Work Kayak tour. .. Was absolutely breathtaking! It was the middle of winter and pouring down with rain (I refused to cancel!) and we had a blast! We were supplied with wet weather gear, and it was warm .. The lake was tranquil, except for the sound of the fish jumping out of the water, and the mating sounds of the Swans... At least that's what I thought it was!
The wall to wall canyon of Glowworms was just amazing! Definately worth the money, if it was summer time we would have taken some cheese and crackers too!

“World Class Tour Operator!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

We followed the advice of another TripAdvisor reviewer, providing owner Grant Bradley with our broad parameters for a tour, then allowing him to design it. Wow, Grant delivered a magnificent experience that exceeded our best expectations!

And it gets better. The Acid Test of a great tour operator is dealing with the unexpected, and Grant scored A+. Our cruise ship lost propulsion en route to Tauranga, causing a 4-hour delay in our scheduled port arrival. When our revised arrival time was announced on board, our shipboard Concierge contacted Grant on his mobile to advise. Grant’s response was world class and a great relief: “No worries. We’ll be waiting for you!”

Grant adapted on-the-fly to our modified schedule. He delivered a marvelous tour for us, and of course timely returned us to our ship.

For the record, our interests were experiencing scenic highlights and thermal features in the Tauranga/Rotorua area. Without ever feeling rushed, we squeezed half-a-dozen stops into our afternoon, including the delightful Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Park. Note that Grant fully disclosed at the time of booking that any paid attractions would at our expense. This pricing strategy allows him to appropriately charge for his services, rather than “padding” his tour price to include attractions that may or may not be of interest to his guests. Of our six stops, only Wai-O-Tapu was a paid attraction. All the others were free, out-of-the mainstream sights and touring, most of which would be known only to the locals. Bravo!

We found Grant to be friendly, professional, and wholly committed to delivering a great product. His personal insights and knowledge of the area added immeasurably to the value and enjoyment of our tour. If/when we return to Tauranga, we would absolutely book again with Grant!

“Exceptional, exciting day! And some exercise too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2012

On our South Pacific cruise, our day with Grant was equaled only by our time snorkeling on Bora Bora. That is just how much we enjoyed this day!

We found Adventure Bay of Plenty on TA and contacted Grant, who provided fast responses and a “plan” incorporating several things we wanted to do while in port for one day. We wanted to hike up Mt. Maunganui, kayak and bike. We were with Grant from 8am – 5pm and the cost associated with our adventure was exceptionally good.

We could have hiked up “The Mount” alone but were so glad to have Grant with us, explaining the geography, history, flora and fauna to us. It was a 760 ft climb with phenomenal views up and down the coast. We stopped and took pictures at will and rested when we needed it. All the islands visible were identified including Mayor, Matakana, White Island and others.

Next was the incredible kayaking around “The Mount”. We are not seasoned kayakers and Grant was very good about keeping us safe and giving us great instructions on how to kayak and steer. He has quality sea kayaks with the funny-looking but very effective bibs for keeping us dry & warm. We had cormorants diving into the water around us and sting rays under us. The wind was whipping up on the other side of “The Mount” so Grant decided to change course and go to Matakana Island instead of Rabbit Island. It was a blast crossing the shipping channel and having to wait as a huge cargo ship went by. Talk about feeling insignificant! Great pictures from the island of Mt. Maunganui and the ship.

Our final adventure was biking (after lunch in a nice café). We biked on a path along the picturesque Tauranga Beach and then through the town and over the Tauranga Bridge to the Waikareao Estuary. Now, biking in town may not sound too adventuresome but when you are riding on the left side of the road and going around roundabouts it IS exciting! Thank goodness we had Grant to follow and he always kept us safe. The boardwalk and path around the estuary was fantastic and fun. We stopped by the Yacht Club for nice pictures of where we had kayaked: Matakana Island, the Mount and our ship. Biking over the Tauranga Bridge was interesting too.

I would highly recommend Adventure Bay of Plenty and Grant. We had a blast, were always safe and he kept us on time without ever feeling pressured to go faster or not enjoy the time. It was so good to stretch our legs after being on the ship. We loved the Mt. Maunganui & Tauranga area. And we loved Grant: knowledgeable, friendly, funny and very safety conscious.

“A chauffer instead of a tour”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2012

I was on a cruise and booked the sightseeing tour. Kev picked us up as Grant was doing a kayak tour the same day. Kev was nice and tried his best, but you could tell that he wasn’t fully comfortable and familiar with all of the sites and giving background information. I was in contact with Grant to make the booking, and it looks like he has great reviews. I’d recommend confirming that he is the tour guide before booking since it would have made a big difference.

Another couple from Canada agreed that this was more of a taxi service than a ‘tour.’ Unfortunately we could have rented a car or taken a taxi to get the same experience.

The sites themselves were great. We visited the Kiwi experience, the thermal village, a few beautiful lakes, and had some time to walk around the city.

Thank you for your review. Adventure Bay of Plenty has grown very quickly over the last year thanks to Trip Adviser.. To start with I was able to take most of the tours but as interest has increased I have needed to find additional staff. They are all qualified but you reviews are welcomed as it helps me decide on who I need to talk to about their delivery of our tours etc.
