“An Enchanting Little Gem Buried in Tauranga”

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Crindau Lodge and would love to go back again!

It is a really special place from the moment you arrive in which every detail has been carefully thought through - starting from the long driveway that leads you through a taste of New Zealand bush to the homely lodge decorated with fairy-lights.

Our hosts were a lovely family that were very accommodating - we arrived late at night and they had prepared the lodge for us, leaving the lights on, bottled cold water in the fridge and even free-range eggs from their chickens. In the morning we were informed about all the local activities, walks and places near by.

The place was well-equipped with essentials and more. We loved all the personal touches i.e. the fluffy bathrobes, cups on the dresser, fresh flowers in vases, books, pacific themed rooms, information folder with all the need to know information about the lodge, activities and local eateries etc. Rooms and furnishings were spacious, comfortable and well-presented.

It was raining for half of the time we were there and we would have liked to stay longer to enjoy more of what the location had to offer - especially to go for a picnic that was a short bush walk from the lodge to their orchard which had a spectacular view of the area.

The drive up the long windy road and then into the forested drive to the lodge is spectacular. The accommodation is very spacious and well presented. The hosts are very hospitable and went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and made us feel really at home.

We stayed as self catering, and breakfast was provided for the next day and lasted quite a while. The pantry was sufficiently stocked as was the fridge. More than we expected.

Our wonderful hosts spoiled us with muffins and even a wonderful fruit pavlova on Christmas Day and allowed us use of their private deck with beautiful views over the bay on the days when we had family over for a BBQ.

Our daughter loved playing in the garden which is packed with wonderful equipment... Trampoline, play gym, swings and slide amongst others. She also made a wonderful friend of their lovely daughter.

Currently there is no washing machine, but our hostess offered to do our washing and I believe one is arriving in future. If you need an iron or hair dryer you may need to bring your own, but this didn't bother me.

The surroundings are secluded and the wildlife abundant. Listening to birdsong and seeing the glow worms at night were a real treat.

We loved our two weeks and really warmed to the family. We'd certainly return next time we do a family trip to NZ.

As we drove up the tree shaded road we wondered what kind of place is this? But shortly a clearing appeared and there appeared a virtual gem in the rough. The house was a wooden wonder set among trees of all variety and a grand view of the ocean.
Our room was large, sunny and most important immaculate. Our hosts made us feel right at home and the breakfast was just fabulous dinning on the veranda overlooking the lush greenery and blue ocean.
It was a truly memorable stay and hopefully on our next visit to North Island we will return to visit.

We stayed at this B&B for a couple of days and really loved it. It was easily our favourite B&B during a 3 week stay in New Zealand. The owner was very friendly, the breakfast was exceptional (think freshly cooked muffins, beautifully served fruit, and a choice of a cooked breakfast or muesli), and the view from the veranda over the unspoilt bush to the sea/coastline below stunning.

You need to keep your eyes peeled to spot the road for the turning up to the B&B - it's just outside Katikati. The B&B is at the end of a long track which heads gradually up into the hills through unspoilt bush with tree ferns a plenty.

The only thing to be aware of is that there are two very friendly (and fluffy) house cats resident - so not a place to stay if you're allergic/not a cat lover. There are just 2 double rooms available (each with their own bathroom and super fluffy bathrobe) so it is very quiet and secluded. There's also a hot tub in the garden (which we didn't try) and a guest lounge area which we found great to sit in and had tea/coffee facilities. Internet access is also available (and included in the room cost). They were trying to make this wireless but having a few technical problems when we were there - however, using a cable we were still able to access the net.
