Stayed here for 2 nights, room was very comfy.....You could use as much internet as you wanted, which is useful for booking onward travel etc etc
Just a short walk to the town and shops, info centre...We had a lake view, (even though it was a cheap late booking) we had nice balcony and could sit and relax and look at the view....Ruapehu visible amongst the clouds......
Everyone in the hotel and the town seem really friendly.
We ate once in The Mousetrap restaurant, and have no complaints at all...Yummy!
Pleasant atmosphere, not rushed, will definitely stay here again....

Room Tip: Lake view if available

We booked a family room just to give us more space. It was a little dated but had two bedrooms and good beds, large lounge with Sky TV, good bathroom (one tip though - don't leave the window open at night unless you like mossies). Good size kitchen with a two ring stove top, microwave and fridge. All the other rooms had been updated so I guess the four family rooms are last on the list although their price reflected the fact that they had still to be modernised. Wireless internet in the room but poor signal making it hard to download but our room was the furthest from reception. Wireless signal in the bar OK.
Good pool area although water a little cold but it is March.
Reception staff very helpful.
We had one meal in the restaurant which was very good but the menu wasn't extensive although most restaurants in Taupo had similar size menus.
Hotel overlooked the lake and was two blocks away from town with all its shops, bars and restaurants.
Lake Taupo is an ideal activity centre with loads going on in and around the lake.

Stay regularly for work. Rooms are modern and comfortable. The shower is older and has water pressure that stings. Try to get an upstairs roadfront room. sitting on the balcony with a glass of what you like on a great evening is an experience you will not get everywhere.
The restaurant is great for breakfast and dinner. If you want to go else where you can charge back to your room. Take fresh milk if you dont like treated sachets of UHT.
Larger family units down the back are good value

Room Tip: Try to get an upstairs roadfront room, Can be noisy but great views.

The room was large and well furnished. The staff were helpful and friendly. The motel is a few minutes walk from the town centre. We arrived on a busy weekend and probably got the last room which was actually above the Mousetrap restaurant which was very noisy in the early evening. However, it was quiet after 10pm so no complaints there. We really needed Wifi connection which seemed to be a problem outside the reception area. However, although the motel's own Wifi did not reach us in our room, we were able to use the one designated for the Mousetrap, so that worked well. All in all this is a reasonably priced, good value, motel.

Room Tip: Be careful to choose a Wifi receptive room if that is important to you.

I got a great deal on their website -Great Lake Family Getaway for two nights at $120 per night for a Garden View one bedroom apartment.
I was expecting a lot more from a Qualmark rated four star property.
The room was small, clean, tidy and dated. The rooms are not sound proof and activities in the rooms around our room with audible e.g. toilet flushing etc.
The tv was a really good size for viewing but some SKY channels are fuzzy.
Good water pressure in the shower although the toilet was somewhat temperamental about flushing.
I really enjoyed a cold beer in the bar but wasn't tempted by their menu for meals.
The housekeeping staff were friendly, chatty and very considerate.
The Sunday reception staff member was very helpful and friendly. The week day receptionist seemed too busy to be friendly. The bar staff were efficient.
Being across the road to the lake edge, next to a miniputt and a short stroll to bars and restaurants in the city centre make this hotel appealing.

Suncourts garden rooms are well appointed. We just loved the beds, very comfortable and the layout of the room was good as well although there was no table and chairs accept on the balcony. Also the price for a night for a family was very reasonable. Kids loved the playground in front of our motel room and the swimming pool. The bathroom was small but the shower was really really good, I can say the best shower we have ever had in a hotel/motel room so that made up for the small space. Nice modern look inside the motel rooms. Less positive points: reception was friendly but that was it. Not going the extra mile or so. Although the e-mail contact to book the room was really really good. Kitchen only has a small microwave no cooking facilities which is quite strange for a family unit. There was some noise at night the first night but not the motel fault probably just the hustle and bustle in the area.

Room Tip: Family units upstairs have a good view on the playground if you have bigger kids. With little kids y...
