Some of the reviews for this motel on Trip Advisor meant that we weren’t quite sure what to expect when we booked to stay here for one night in January, but it was in our price range and on the main route through Taupo, so we thought we’d give it a try. Well, we needn’t have worried. The owners made us feel right at home and couldn’t do enough for us. The décor was nice and modern, so I think it must have had an update since some of the earlier reviews we had read. Our room was towards the road-end of the building but we didn’t find traffic noise a problem, and I consider myself a light sleeper. We didn’t use the pool, but we loved being able to just walk through and sit at the edge of the lake, where we had a picnic dinner. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Taupo.

We had three nights here in February. Owners very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the first floor with a verandah outside and a view towards the lake. The room itself was large and very well equipped for self catering, extremely modern in decor. We would thoroughly recommend this spot. It is at the quieter end of Taupo but just a few minutes drive from the main shops/restaurants.

We stayed at Cascades for my 30th birthday :) Charlene & Alister are very friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We found in our a rom a bottle of wine, chocolates, cheese, crackers & grapes to help us celebrate my new age!! Our room was very clean with all we needed supplied. We have a lovely view of the lake out our window, & a place to sit & enjoy the sunshine on the deck :) Will defintely be back for more stays. THANKS

We were made to feel very welcome by Charlene and Alister. Great to have the heated pool, spa and tramopline. Room very sunny rooms and area to sit out by unit.
We found it was alot quieter ( road traffic) than most other motels along the lake front.

We had a really nice room, quite large and very clean and our balcony area overlooked Lake Taupo. The owners - Alstair and Charlene we exceptional and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable - they even booked a terrific tour for us in Napier for the day we left them! We would definitely recommend staying here! As is customary in most New Zealand motels they didn't have air conditioning but they did provide fans to help cool the unit.
