Our family of four stayed in a one bedroom apartment. The apartment was quite large and well fitted out. If staying in the apartment I would recommend paying extra to have your car stored in the basement parking below. There is lift access direct to your room and makes coming and going so much easier.

We did the buffet breakfast and the food quality of great. Whilst small there were plenty of attractive options. Would certainly stay here again.

Stayed 2 nights in a King Room. We were looked after by Lisa and her team all the way through our stay - thank you Lisa for making our weekend away just right. On one of the days we asked Lisa which part of the building was the old hotel she gave us a tour through which was just great!
The room - big, bright and very clean. Housekeeping 5mins away when we called. Our room was quite and had black out curtains. Beds very comfy with the option or ordering more pillows off the "pillow menu", which we did. Fresh milk available on request.
Yes, parking was $15 but its right by the elevator to your room, worth paying for!
We used the sauna, spa and pool - the pool being at 23 degrees - which I thought a little cold. The sauna was lovely and clean and has showers etc.
I would not hesitate staying here again, however next time I would request a room with a covered balcony as when it rained we could not go outside.
This place is just lovely.
We had dinner at Bistro Lago - see my review on tripadvisor for Bistro Lago.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a covered balcony on a high floor

I have stayed at the Hilton Taupo twice now, and it has been great both times - but not without small issues.

Last time, on the company ticket, I stayed in a lake-view suite, which was fantastic and absolutely massive.

This time round I was in a standard guest room, with no view. For the price I paid I was happy with this, but please be warned the rooms are smaller than the average 5-star hotel room.

Best bet is to get yourself an upgrade.

The room was clean, but is very basic, tv cables hang out from the wall mounted set. Everything is in place, it just seemed a bit sparse as far as furnishings went. The second day the bed was barely made... The duvet pulled back but the sheets not straightened.

The hotel probably needs to make more of an effort with insects. One night the hall doors - they are automatic - were left open and the hallways ended up literally blanketed with them. The same was found by my partner in the bathrooms of the gymnasium.

I would however go back. The staff were friendly, the restaurants and room service amazing.

Best of all are the facilities. The tennis court is free and a great facility, and while it rained most of the long weekend we found the pools and gym on site to be fantastic.

Dear LlewellynNZ,

Many thanks for taking the time to post on TripAdisor. I appreciate you choosing to stay at Hilton Lake Taupo it was wonderful to welcome you back once again.

I am sorry to read that we did not quite meet your expectations on this visit and value your feedback. Please be assured that I will follow-up with my team.

As you have mentioned, due to our proximity to the lake currently there are a lot of Trout Flies around Taupo in general and these tend to appear in our fire exit lobbies. We do infact have a treatment programme in place for these.

I appreciate your feedback regarding bedroom size. Our Guest and Guest room plus rooms are in general the same size at approximately 32 square meters.

Thank you again for posting and we shall look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again.

Best regards,

Clinton Farley

We've just stayed 2 nights here in a king room with lake view and from the minute you check into the lobby, you know you are in good hands. The people at reception were very helpful all the time. Free unlimited wifi in the lobby!! The room was huge, with a comfortable king bed, a good plasma tv, a balcony, good views, the bathroom was big and spacious with a towel warmer, great for dying your washing. The mini fridge was very quiet. They give you free bottled water every day and night, turndown service and free newspaper daily.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with lots of fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, fresh bakeries and jams, fully cooked breakfast was included as well, eggs, bacon, sausages etc... The only thing not good was the coffee, out of a pot. You can purchase your coffee here for $4.50.
We had a car so took it into town etc... The outdoor spa was deliciously hot at 35 Celsius so we used it lots as its cold outside. Didn't use the gym but saw it and it was good.
Loved our stay here! The restaurant is fine dining, fabulous food!! We had prawns, crab, the steak was absolutely divine and cooked to perfection. Good NZ wines as well.
Do recommend this hotel and would come back.

Room Tip: Do ask for a lake room, they are bigger! And include breakfast

We stayed in a single room at the Hilton Lake Taupo. We had booked two rooms for two couples but when we arrived they only had one on their computer. The reception had no problems at all once we showed our booking sheet and upgraded both of our rooms. The rooms were both huge with great showers.

We also had the buffet breakfast when we left the next morning. It had a large range that we took great advantage of.

Our room was very pleasant (although we missed out on the turndown service and found the provision of only four 15ml pottles of milk per night parsimonious), but our biggest concern during our stay was parking. Even in Taupo's CBD parking is free, and we are unaware of any other Taupo accommodation that charges guests to park; rather than pay a minimum $15 for covered parking we chose the free option. In doing so, we did not realise that pedestrian access involves either walking on a steep grassy bank (not safe in rain, footwear considerations aside), or walking for about 200m on a dimly lit road that is shared by the nearby thermal pools and from which cars departing (downhill) often leave at speed. The carpark itself is not at all lit or paved, and when we returned in the evening, a large number of cars were parked in very deep puddles. As it happens we were wearing sturdy footwear and managed to find a less waterlogged area, but others were less fortunate. Guests who don't wish to pay for parking probably expect a bit of inconvenience, but endangering them by not providing pedestrian access that is safe, especially in adverse weather, is not what we would expect of a Hilton. The pictures attached showed the parking area when we checked out; they were much larger the previous evening, and again - this is an unlit area.

Dear littlefmrt,

I appreciate you taking time to post feedback on TripAdvisor regarding your recent stay with us. We take pride in offering a high level of accommodation, facilities and personal service at Hilton Lake Taupo and I am sorry that we did not quite meet your overall expectations.

With regards to turndown we offer this nightly service upon request so that we do not disturb those that wish to check-in and be undisturbed. Fresh milk we are pleased to offer upon request as noted on the small card in our tea/coffee caddy, however do provide the UHT long life milk for convenience.

I am pleased to advise that we are only a couple of weeks away from commencing the upgrade of the land infront of our hotel into a designated guest parking area. Currently we offer our secure undercover parking for a nightly fee of $15, twenty-one sealed complimentary car parking spaces directly infront of our Heritage building and soon to add 30 additional complimentary car parks on the land in front. I am sorry that you found the current parking an inconvenience and can assure you that this is about to be improved.

Thank you again for taking the time to share on TripAdvisor and I do hope that we will see you again soon.

Kind regards,

Clinton Farley

I can only recommend this hotel unreservedly - the restaurant is amazing and the rooms are gorgeous. I have stayed there twice and both times have had excellent service and thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing stay, from the hot pool to the sauna to the well equipped rooms. The Heritage rooms are beautiful with views across the lake and the showers are the best with a rainfall shower outlet from the roof complimenting the normal spray. The robes are luxurious and the beds very very comfy. The breakfasts are all too delicious as are the dinners. Definitely the place when passing through Taupo.

Room Tip: The Heritage wing is lovely but so are the other rooms facing the lake.
