“Be daring.....”

This is a road which winds through the thermal power station up to a look out at the top of the road. It was not clear as we drove along the road and few times we nearly turned around - but we pushed on and under various pipes forming bridges over the road. At the top you get a good overall view of the power plant and there is a diorama which explains how the plan works.

No cost, only 10 mins of the main road and fascinating.

“Hot stuff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2014

There seems to be a lot of powerful stuff going on here. Plenty of impressive infrastructure, random puffs of steam and even a bit of power generated here.

“Tours no longer available”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

We planned to go to the power station, on the belief that there was a tour. But we were told that there are no tours, so I don't know what there is to see.

“Without the guide still very interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

Since visiting the thermal region and all thermal parks we also wanted to have a guided tour of the thermal power plant. However this required booking one day ahead , NZ$ 180 and another NZ$20 per hour. For only two persons that was very expensive and there was no group reservation we could join.
We took the road and visited the area for free. On top of the hill, from a parking lot you gat a good overview and several boards give a reasonable explanation of the different installations. These complemetary explanations to the Craters of the Moon and other thermal attractions as well as information from musea, gives you a good impression of what is going on.
We liked it very much to see this other dimension of the thermal activities, and free.
