Easy walking along the river with opportunities for a dip along the way. The falls were stunning and the views open from the walkways. Take a picnic for a lovely day out.

There is a larger parking lot next to the falls where the tour buses go, but we parked further north up the highway (less than a few hundred meters) to enjoy the walk down to the falls and scenic lookouts. It can be steep in parts, but it is a nicer, less populated approach and definitely recommended. Once at the falls, we met up with the crowds from visiting tours, and it became a little more hectic. Like all good things, it is popular.

2017- Stunning to look at and so beautiful with lush bush and plant life. The history of the falls is well displayed for visitors.

We were driving from Rotorua to Napier but had been recommended to break up the journey by stopping off at Huka Falls and then the town of Taupo.
Huka was well worth the stop........220,000 litres of water per second tumble over a cliff face and this torrent runs down the Waikato River through a series of hydro power stations. Also worth mentioning is the unique Wairakei geothermal power station which uses underground geothermal activity to produce steamy hot water.
The parking at Huka was spacious and we also had a drink at the Visitor Centre before carrying on with our journey
Well worth the stop off

Hukka Falls are a spectacular sight. Free to park and only a short walk away. If you have time to do a longer walk leading to the falls I imagine that is beautiful.
