“Tired and Run Down”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

The walk has not been maintained and is muddy and even dangerous for all but the fittest of people. The site could barely be considered a Thermal Valley and rather than spending your $10 here (it's not worth a dollar) go into the centre of Rotarua and see the free springs there!

“Charming Little Mini-Zoo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012 via mobile

We arrived here by accident down a winding old road, but discovered a delightful cafe with a wonderful array of animals wandering around. It was the highlight of the day out for our 2 and 4 year olds who were enchanted by the miniature kunekune pig, the peacocks, the alpacas and all the chickens and roosters wandering around. We did not have time for the walk, but loved the peaceful setting and will be back to do that another time.

“Not worth the money or the walk”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Very run down, and no boiling mud or geysers, just some steam...and not much of it, coming out of the ground. The path was deep with mud and there was just a ricketey small tree branch as a railing...cobbled together with a bit of wire, it was unstable and felt unsafe
The track is not maintained and there was nothing to see......don't bother, save your $10.00.
Children under 16 free, but he still tried to charge my 14 year old.
I did give feedback after the walk, as I would rather do that then post on this forum but the man was not interested and I see the business is for sale anyway.

“Nice stopover in Taupo”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012 via mobile

On yet another wet day in Taupo, we visited the Wairakei Thermal Valley. It was too wet to do the geothermal trail, but the cafe with lots of birds to feed, plus a kunekune piglet, chicks and alpacas was a welcome distraction. Friendly service and a lovely Devonshire Tea. Kids played for an hour or so in the bush fort, on the go-karts and on the swings. Worthwhile for an hour or so. We'll come back and do the thermal walk on a fine day.

“Wairakei Geothermal Terraces & Spa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

OMG! Geothermal Terraces of hot pools, very intimate and private not very people. We maybe saw 2 other couples the entire time. The best thing is it is 14+ so no screaming kids. If in Taupo I recommend not missing this hidden jewel.
