“Lovely Hotel - a little too kid friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

Right on Lake Taupo. Walk right out to the water and watch the black swans. The lounge is perfect for a drink during sunset. Rooms are clean & comfortable, bathrooms are large. Problem: screaming children. When we first arrived, there were toddlers running & wrestling through the lobby & lounge. It was met with a shrug, and we were informed they were children of the staff. Then we were put in a room right in the pool courtyard. There was no escaping the kids' squealing & yelling. Fortunately, we were kindly moved into a completely separate wing, where it was perfectly peaceful for our couple's get-away.

Room Tip: Definitely get a lake view room on the ground floor. If you want quiet, stay as far from the pool a...

Dear SoWhatsNext – Thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention - I am so sorry your experience at our hotel was marred by noisy children. Having staff children here happens so rarely that I am able to recollect this particular occasion to a mid afternoon tea farewell of a long term staff member and for a short period there were several little ones in the lounge area. I am aware that due to this, an upgrade was offered quickly to rectify the situation by moving you away from the pool area and I am pleased to hear that you did enjoy this room – I would like to explain that it was not staff in the pool area.
Yes, to guarantee peace and quiet it is wise to request away from pool areas in hotels/apartments as excited children can be difficult to quieten.
Please accept my sincere apologies.
Kind regards
Diane

If you are looking for a hotel room with sunset views over Lake Taupo this is the place. Seeing the sunset was certainly a highlight. The room itself was spotless and very nice but it was pretty small. Hotel staff were very good on check in. Some minor road noise and price meant that we found a nice motel for our second and third nights in town.

Dear Kiwi_Explorer2009 - I am so pleased you enjoyed one of our magical sunsets - they never cease to amaze us either, and the next one always seems to be more spectacular than a previous one. Hopefully we will welcome you back agian and please ask about larger rooms that may be available to also get you further away from the road. This does not cause many problems at all, but I do appreciate some are very sensitive to night noises. Kind regards Diane

Only stayed here one night but have stayed in other hotels in Taupo and this is definately one of the best. Has a pool which is heated and if you get a lake view room you get a fantastic views up to the mountains. Would stay here again, helpful staff, comfortable room and great location. Only down side is its a bit out of Taupo's main area.

Dear ElginEastern - thank you for your lovely comments - yes we are very fortunate to have such amazing views. Being on the lakeside of the road verses the distance from town. Hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back again. Kind regards Diane

During a three week trip to NZ, myself and the wife sneaked off for a night alone and were extremely lucky to get a beautiful sunny day with an excellent picture postcard view from our first floor room. We don't of tan have breakfast in our room but were glad we did as we sat tucking into a full English breakfast. Or should that be a Full New Zealand. Well worth the chance to get away on our own.

Stayed overnight, lovely rooms, very friendly and helpfull staff. Although didn't get to use the restaurant this visit the set up looked fabulous and will certanily be sure to use it next time. The walk along the lakeside into town on a beautiful day is well worth the time.

Room Tip: Recommend the spa bath units

I have to say that my experience with this hotel will pale all others. I recently got married and held my ceremony on the lake front and then had my reception dinner at this hotel. From the moment we arrived - and most of my guests were staying there as well - the staff could not do enough for us. What ever we required - it was done. The rooms all but a couple looked onto the lake and the views were quite spectacular. A wide variety of rooms catered for all my guests requirements and all said that the service was second to none.

The food was divine - the dinner was extensive and not at all over priced as most places tend to add a couple of naughts to the bill. I was really impressed and WILL go back.

Oh and try the pool - a warm temperature and a lovely place to soak in.

Room Tip: Only stay on the lake front!

I must say that the hotel is so good because of the staff working there, spoke to the restaurant manager who had been there 24 years, she was most helpful. Arrived looking for a room on a holiday weekend and were grateful that we could get in, even if we did not have a room with a view. Were able to get a late lunch and nearly did not move from our position by the window looking out on to the lake. Were back later to the main restaurant for dinner and the magnificent view, the meal was fantastic. Then moved to the bar and the staff there were as marvellous, giving advice on the single malts that we should try.
Would strongly recommend this hotel if you are passing through Taupo because of the view but also the staff from reception through to the bar are fantastic.
