Our group of 4 were fortunate to have a beautiful day in Taupo. We travelled out to the dam which took about 20 mintues and waited for the dam to release water. I can't remember the numbers but many thousands of litres (or was it millions?) of water escaped the dam to fill this chasm. I thought it was to feed the hydro plant downstream but was told it was only to regulate the level of the dam. Regardless, this was a great sight plus the excitement of the kids standing around us just reinforced why we were there.....they were so excited in anticipation of this this wonderful event.
