Owner description: Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand. Sail Barbary is an all-year-round top rated Taupo activity; offering relaxation, fun and adventure on the water the Kiwi way. Taupo's 14-meter high Maori Rock Carvings are possibly the largest of their type in the world and are a must-see attraction, only accessible by boat. Sail Barbary has been offering sailing cruises to these carvings since 1983. Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves; you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. You’re guaranteed amazing photo opportunities as you experience one of life’s postcard moments. You can even BYO (Bring Your Own) food and beverages. Things really couldn’t get more Kiwi! As New Zealand’s only two commercially operated electric yachts - We're equipped for all conditions; if the wind dies down, Barbary's eco-friendly electric engine kicks in, moving noiselessly through the water. When the wind is up, you can enjoy sailing without salty sea-spray and noisy outboard motors. Warm ponchos are supplied. Sail Barbary cruises to the Maori Rock Carvings depart daily at 10.30am, 2.00pm, and 5.00pm (*5.00pm Summer Only). We don’t promise the best cruise on the lake, we deliver it!

Jamie and Sarah ( our hosts ) took our family on a delightful yet exciting trip up the lake to the carvings and back. Their relaxed approach to treat "Barbary" as your own set the tone for the evening . The tranquil bay we stopped in on the way back was the perfect setting for a delicious BBQ with all the food you could eat. Our kids loved it and were thrilled when they almost got dunked sitting right up the bow of the grand old lady. My wife's and I favorite moment though was when Jamie cranked up his sounds ( subwoofer included ) and played a list of songs we could sing to from our era whilst we were under sail. Great hosts, fantastic value for money , hope the blu tooth receiver idea for your music works team!!

My husband Les and I had the most enjoyable afternoon sailing with Jamie & Sarah. We went on the 5:00 pm cruise and paid the extra for the bar-b-que. It was one of the best afternoons of our whole 3 week trip to New Zealand. We were very fortunate to have fabulous weather and an absolutely calm lake. We would go again in a minute.

When we passed Jamies boat in the Marina, we ( my wife and two kids ) were admiring the beautifull wooden boat. So we bought tickets and took the 5pm cruise.
The weather was beuatifull with a good wind so we could actually sail.
Jamie and Sarah were perfect hosts and great fun . It was the most relaxing afternoon we enjoyed on our 4 week trip in New Zealand.
They know what they are doing and are very proud of their boat, and they should be. The Barbary is a beautifull wooden boat.
If you don't want to speed over the water in a jetboat or hanging on a parachute, but enjoy a relaxed afternoon with friendly company, take a trip whith Jamie and Sarah.
You will enjoy it !
